My friend needed a cheap upgrade, and challenged me to make it as cheap as I could.

Ended up getting a Semperon 2500 on an Asrock "GX" board (on-board video) which is Semperon-ready. Bought it at Youngsan. Wanted to find an XP, since they are faster, but they were out of everything up to 2800.

The Semperon 2500 cost 93,000 won, plus 53,000 for the Asrock board. Bought a case for 30,000 and used an extra 235watt Simbadda ATX power supply I had laying around. The smallest Semperon they had in stock was a 2400, and was only a few thousand won less, so went with the 2500.

Traded in her old PC100 Ram and stuck 256k of DDR2700 Ram for now. Told her to add more later when she has cash. Her Hard Drive was a 40 gig 7200 which wasn't original to her system, so we kept that. Not very big, but she ain't got a lot of spare cash.

All-in all, she got a pretty decent upgrade to her old Celeron 500 system for not much over 200,000 won.

Added Windows XP Professional in Korean, and she's thrilled.

Runs pretty good. She won't be doing any fast rendering or heavy gaming on it, but it's definately up to everything else she'll throw at it.

Well there Derrek... you conveniently forgot to mention how much that cost... perhaps if you had stolen everything her whole new system wouldn't have cost her a penny Wink

Hmmm.....

Hey demophobe, are you the guy who typed this information on how to illegally get SP2 for XP?

Pot calling the kettle black?

Dude, there are a bunch of ways for you to get SP2 with your copy of XP...you gotta get the XP serial number changer and follow that guide...it will let you put a clean serial into XP.

Then do a slipstream install from a full download of SP2 using a clean serial, not the windows update one, but the full deal from the link I gave above.

If you choose the program "nLite" you can make an ISO of your WinXP disc, with SP2 slipstreamed into it, plus there are many options for the ISO, such as a full, unattended installation. The benefit here is that for an unattended install, you must enter the serial (a clean, new one made with the serial number changer program) into the nLite program, which will in turn, make this serial part of the ISO....when you go to install WinXP using your new, SP2-included disc you burned from the ISO made with nLite, the new, clean serial will be used for the install.

I hope you can understand this....right now, even I am confused.

Download nLite and the XP serial number changer. Follow the guides for both programs located on their respective websites, then re-read what I wrote. I think it will make sense.....I hope!

I don't have a link for the XP serial number thing....sorry. nLite is here:

well I did pretty much the same thing as the OP when I found a cable poking through our living room window when we moved in. Simply plugged it into the aerial socket on the TV and voila... tons of cable... for free. I guess it was just someone before who never bothered signing off.

Big deal... I don't care. I'm no "saint", but don't try to make me look bad for something you guys obviously do -- steal.

By the way, her copy came from her brother.

Derrek....how very "Gollum-esque" you post is! I think your sock is taking control...Shari Lewis turns Mr. Garisson type thing. Laughing

BTW....what are you talking to me for? I said "Hmmm" and I wasn't even posting to you. Rolling Eyes

If you want to jump on me (which I know you are eager to do), please find something real to do it with and log in as Gollum when you do, just for the sake of consistency. Razz

A saint I am, upright I am not.

Your OP claims you are skilled in building bargain pcs for people. Not if you include the price of the OS you're not... that was my point.
