Anyone notice some subway stations have some mighty old ads for movies that have long come and gone? In the Dongdaemoon station today I just noticed there's still a movie poster ad for Tomb Raiders II. In the Gwangsomethingoranother near Kyobo books there was a Frida poster for a long time. In Taerung I saw Along Came Polly for about 3 or 4 months.

Most subway systems don't sell out all their ad space so they tend to leave up ads long after their paid run. It's just too costly to send someone out to take down the ads and slap up a white poster. As well if there are too many unsold spaces it doesn't project a very vibrant advertising environment to prospective advertisers. So you'd never know that that ad for Otegi Sweet Pancake Sauce has been running about 6 months longer than the client's actual paid campaign. However when it's highly topical things like movies, it kind of looks weird.

On a related note, for newbie AFN viewers, that commercial claiming someone has "recently" been mailing counterfeit sports jerseys from US military post offices has been running since I got here in Dec 2003. Anyone know how long it's actually been running? And what the upper limit of a military definition of "recently" is?

This wasn't a subway station but I do recall seeing an old faded poster outside a bar - ɺô!

Its been running at least 2 1/2 years. As long as I've been here. So could be even longer.

As an aside, anyone know what they saying in that ad when they say, "If the price in <blank>-dong market was too good..."

I still can't figure out if they're saying "wrong-dong" or "wong-dong".. the latter I presume being the USFK generic term for a Korean shopping area.

They also promote the movie 'Ratrace' under a different name.

On the other hand, you can buy a copy of the movie 'Hero' with 'Jet Li' on dvd at e-mart, while this movie currently shows in American cinemas.

Ah yes that's the other mystery of the commercial. I hear "wong dong". Googling for "wong dong" turns up a wong dong near Osan so that might be relevant.
