Don't rely on the people from this board. Talk to the foreigners, employed there presently and in the past, and get their take on the school. You should do this with every school to which you apply. If they won't give you numbers or if they have no foreigners in their roster, past or present, pass on them and find a school which is better. Smile

BTW, try to get their home phone numbers because if they speak to you while they are at work, it is likely that the boss will be leaning over their shoulders, thus causing them to lie through their teeth to you. You could alternately ask for their email addresses.

Good luck.

Moreover, don't rely solely on a list of contacts provided by the employer. They're usually selective about whose information they pass on. Try to get contact details for the employees they didn't put on the list.
First question I ask: How many teachers have renewed their contracts here? If the majority have done so, that's just about good enough for me to sign right there and then. If only a few have done so I then ask "how many teachers didn't finish their contracts"? If around 1 in 4 haven't done so, that's just about good enough for me to walk out right there and then.

I'm not trying to slate you but are you going to ask us about every school that you apply to and/or every contract you receive?

You are being cautious, fair enough, but, for one, don't rely solely on this site for your information. Do some searches and find some Korean contracts online, for example. You will start to see standard similarities. If your "Spidey-senses" are tingling after you have figured out what is standard in the Korean ESL industry, it is a good indication that you should just move on to something else.

Besides, in my time here, I've seen a lot of people come and go, some people have bad experiences (legitimately bad or just bad because they are unwilling to look at their experiences in a positive light and enjoy themselves), and some have good experiences. I have seen this with people who worked at the same school. While one person espoused that the director/school was terrible in every way, another was having a rosey time and resigned contracts two times.

At some point, every one of us in this industry have to just rely on our gut feeling and go for it. Smile

you are right jazblanc that at some point you just have to rely on your own gut feelings, these were the 3 i had it narrowed down after quite a few offers and so was just doing some final checking. research, knowing yourself, having an open attitude, and trusting your instincts seem to be the best guides and i've been trying to use all of these - i think i've made my decision though so have no fears, there will be no more posts about those from me!
thanks for all the tips though!
