North Korea Has Deployed Intermediate Range Ballistic Missiles
The Defense Ministry has officially confirmed for the first time that North Korea has in fact been deploying new intermediate range ballistic missiles, with ranges of 3,000-4,000km -- far longer than those of the Rodong 1 missiles that go 1,300km.
A U.S spy satellite detected 10 units of these new missiles and launching sites at the two bases, the sources said. The new intermediate missiles can reach Hawaii and Guam, a U.S strategic stronghold, as well as Okinawa.

North Korea Laying 80 New Tunnels

N. Korea attack on South would be lethal
If a conflict did escalate, most analysts agreed, North Korea almost certainly would lose to the better-armed, better-equipped and better-trained U.S. forces — but not before it wreaked havoc.
U.S. Forces Korea and others estimate massive casualties in and around Seoul — up to 1 million in the first 24 hours alone — even calling South Korea's capital "the kill box." More than 21 million civilians are in the Seoul metropolitan area. At about 50 miles from the Demilitarized Zone, theyre well within North Korean artillery range.

But, aren't the North Koreans starving?
The North Koreans seem strong enough to build weapon systems, deploy them, and develop tunnels (underground bases).
Seoul to Supply North Korea With Foreign Rice
The Seoul government will send 100,000 tons of rice from its ports to North Korea by the end of this month. The shipment is part of 400,000 tons the government promised Pyongyang in the annual rice assistance earlier this year.

I thought the same about the second largest island in Korea, before I arrived here to find out that Geoje Island not only has historical significance as the P.O.W. camp where thousands of North Koreans were interned during the Korean War, but the island is the centre for shipbuilding with the largest concentration of shipyard work going on at Samsung and Daewoo, including some navy ships. This island would be a prime target for the North Korean submarines.
I've heard that some North Korean spies have been caught over the years after landing on the beaches and attempting to mingle with the locals. I totally understand why they'd come here... via the beaches I mean. (Check out my avatar on a sunny day) |

I'm in the northern reaches of Seoul. Far from the core but then I'm sure all the poorly targeted missiles and rockets would end up falling on my hood.
On one hand I apply the Soviet model. Why were we scared of them over running Western Europe? This was a nation that couldn't manage something as basic as getting 90% of crops to market before they spoiled, why did we ever think they had some flawless war machine? North Koreans troops and tanks wouldn't make it 2 meters into South Korea before they were shooting each other in the back and tripping over each other.
On the other hand, even a South Korean transit worker could manage to put a shell in a breach, point it south, and pull a trigger.
And there's always the question could North Korea be the world's first nation-sized death cult that commits mass suicide? |

Have to agree with you there. RR posts don't offer much.
North Korea may have missile capacity, but I doubt very much that it compares to what SK and the USA would have here. NK is way behind in everything, their tanks are 50 years old and a very limited supply of fuel, their air force is mostly old jets with a few newer migs thrown in (pilots get 20 flight hours a year, compared in other countries at 20 hours a month), and their army spends most of their time growing food, working on their barracks, and tending forests. Hmmm, maybe their training NINJA ATTACK SQUIRRELS!!! OMG, run for the hills!!!
Where did I get this info? The newspaper, of course. Considering that North Korea is in many ways much worse off than Iraq was (pre-invasion), and that the NK army knows this(CNN actually helping out there), then I don't think we will see any NK missiles anytime soon. |

I live in pretty central Seoul and work at the airport so if the shit ever hits the fan, I'm dead meat. Still think I'm more likely to get wiped out by a taxi crash, than some freaky midget's army though.
