When teaching kids gets me down, I have two mantras I repeat to myself:

"Hrm, upon checking their growth rings, I guess they are children after all and not miniature adults with a developed sense of right and wrong and a mortgage to pay."

"It takes a super human effort by two parents, four grandparents, and a host of aunts and uncles to socialize just one kid. I have thirty of them. And I'm only one human being. So what chance do I realistically stand?"

Hey, that's true. It takes a family of parents and relatives AND schoolteachers to socialize a kid.
Kind of an atypical, messed up night at the haggie. The son of the boss is moving into his own apt. tonight, first year of college. So she stepped out to help with the move and nobody knew what classes to teach Shocked Smile . Kids were wandering around, and when asked what class they had next, said they didn't want to study Laughing .
The firt class of the night a 13 year old guy was sleeping. He said he went to the mountain today. I could empathize because I was feeling rather wrecked from hiking myself. The boss returned ten minutes after break and I taugt this same bunch again (!). This same guy carried on a note conversation with the guy next to him, so I kicked them both out when I noticed what was going on.
Then class tightened up.
They've got to know teacher thinks study is important to start getting involved and pulling their weight. The mantra, 'they're just kids and I was like that when i was their age' cuts my intentness on this just enough. Smile
