Does anyone here have one of these Post Graduate Diploma/Certificate in Education?

Hi Zed. I think Toby said he had one of those things when I saw him in the pub a few months ago. I might be wrong but I think he did.

I dont know if it would help as I dont have one but a few of the better sounding jobs want people with proper teaching credentials. So I guess it might.

How's your MA going? I want to pick your brains about that over a pint or two when I get back next week.

I've got a PGCE, but few people here (Korea) have any idea what it is. Worry more about the MA you're working on. CELTAs, DELTAs, PGCEs etc etc mean very little in this part of the world - other than putting a little extra juice in your resume. May not justify the cost though.

I have my PDP (Post Degree Program) in Education.

I find its helpful. It certifies you to teach back home, which is the best benefit in the long run. Usually the program is 10-12 weeks. It leaves you a few credits short of a BEd (mine was 6 credits I think..) but it gives you the same certification.

In Korea, I find that most schools treat it like it was a B.Ed...so it can give you a good range of jobs. The job I have right now I only got because of my PDP.

So it would allow me to teach in Canada?

Depends on where you get it, and where you want to do it...but for the most part, PDP's in Education will allow you to teach in most English speaking countries, though you probably will be required an upgrade course or so to meet the areas particular standards...

Unless the PGPD (or whatever it was) you are considering is entirely different than a Canadian PDP..then I have no idea. My PDP was good enough to be a NET teacher though...

Can you post more info about the Canadian PDP in Education? I've done a google on it and I'm not searching the right terms, cause I'm not getting much.

What universities offer it (or is it a community college program?), lenght of time, etc.

I'm looking at a B.Ed right now, but paying $15,000 of my hard-earned (and I mean HARD EARNED) won for 8 months in Ontario....not my idea of the best way to be certified. Especially considering that the majority of the program is not spent in a classroom, I can't understand how they can justify tuition being the same amount as most other programs.

So if there is another way to become Ontario/Canadian ceritified, I'm all for investigating it!
