I'm trying to get my stuff together to start applying for decent jobs after being in a hagwon for two years, and I'm just wondering about the letters of recommendation that universities are looking for. I can easily get them from schools back home, but seeing as I was working in the same school here for two years would it be an idea to get one from there? Also when asking for a letter of recommendation should I ask the manager to write one, or should I maybe just write one up myself along the usual lines and ask him to sign it?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I really have no clue, as to whether they want two employment references or one character reference and one employment reference. Thanks in advance.

You have two options. Write your reference letter in English and get the director to sign it. Or get the director to write up in Korean.

In my case, I would write one up myself. That way the letter includes everything that you want in it. Asking the director to write an unscripted letter of recommendation could be disasterous.

I second this idea, as I have done so in the past with very good results. Except for my second boss, who did it himself and flubbed it completely!!

Write your own letter and have the boss sign and stamp it. It is a much safer path to take. Smile

I was just reading through some of the University job advertisements, where they are looking for the original references signed and sealed....ok now is that not asking for a little too much? I want to apply for more than one job and don't think that I can get my hands on more than one reference from each employer....whats the deal with that!!
