I play traditional Irish music (fiddle) and would like to know if there are any Irish music sessions anywhere in Seoul or any others interested in playing tunes.

I met an Irishman in Murphy's Irish Pub in Jongak who said he knew a teacher who played the fiddle and he said he would email me and give me her number but he hasn't so far.

It would be great to hear from/about any fiddle/flute/whistle/melodian players etc. out there.

Cheers

Now there's a true man - I left my fiddle in the UK - played the violin since I was 4 yrs old - do let me know if you find any Irish jig bars. For now I'll have to make do with my Nigel Kennedy CD's - especially the Hungarian dances, mega tricky key changes to be had Cool

Did she used to play with a band called 'Suns of Arqa'? If so, met her - last I heard she was Busan.

There's a woman from Ireland who plays the violin. She lives in Incheon. I play guitar. There are other musicians around- depending how "pure" you want the music, you might want to check out the Big Electric Cat on Tuesdays in Itaewon at 9pm. and the SAN (Seoul Artist Network) on the 1st & 3rd Sunday of the month at 8pm. at the Woodstock, also in Itaewon.

BTW, my band's name is "Kellswater". I'm also in a band called "Roger's Ghost" (named after the late great Stan Rogers). I'm a big Waterboy's fan (esp. the "Fisherman's Blues" era).

PM. me if I can help in any way or would like to get together and play.

Check out www.seoulshamrock.co.kr which is a mecca for irish people and wannabees in korea.

There are often events run by the IAK Irish Association of Korea and at these events there is generally irish music which is very well received. There isn't much money in it, but you can get a few free drinks (sometimes)

Good luck, hope to hear you at the next bash (there may be a ceili during the summer)

O'Kim's in one of the big hotels near City Hall (Westin Chosun I believe) regularly has live [Irish/Celtic] music on the weekends [at least they used to] and a wide selection of beer [at extreme prices].

Today, December 21st, there is live Irish Traditional music at the Soho that is going to begin around 4:30. The SAN (Seoul Artist Network-Open stage - live music, poetry, performance art, dance, etc.), is also on the 1st & 3rd Sundays of the month and it begins at 7:30 and runs until 11 at the Woodstock, also in Itaewon.

Is anyone coming out to either or both event. I'll be at both of them. Maybe we'll see you there.

all the best!

Although I don't know where exactly I end up teaching yet (considering Daegu, Busan, and Inch'on) or if I play an instrument you'd be interested in playing with, but play guitar and would be definitely interested in jamming some time.

Hello blindsheep

I see you're in Canada, I'm in NS at present. I left Korea in Oct. and am trying to line up a job to go back there in the new year.

If I return to Korea it would be fun to try out some tunes sometime. When you get over there you should contact Harpeau about the music scene in Seoul, another Canadian interested in folk music and also a guitar player.

When do you hope to start your job in Korea? I'm hoping for Jan. or Feb. and I want to work in or close to Seoul but I'm not having much luck so far.

Anyway, I hope we both can make it over and I look forward to meeting you if so. Good luck with the job search.

Hey Miles,

I'm planning on starting for February 1st or so if I can... I'd definitely be up for meeting up sometime if the locations work out...

It's great to hear there are english speaking musicians in Korea, for me thats was the hardest part about deciding to go to korea (no one to jam with...)

Hey Miles, blindsheep,

Let's get together around Groundhog Day for a jam. BTW, Miles, when will you be crossing the puddle again?

That's a good question. As things stand I have signed a contract for a job in Ilsan supposedly starting on Feb. 4 and am now waiting for my letter of confirmation for the E-2 visa application. I hear that Korean Immigration officials are presently swamped with extra work due to an amnesty for illegal foreign workers so it could take longer than usual. It's doubtful that I'll be there for Groundhog Day unfortunately, but all being well I should be there for the session on the third Sunday in February. I'll be in touch when my arrival date is confirmed. See you soon I hope.

Although I living in Gwangju for the first 5 months or so, I recently moved to Paju (near Ilsan) which is alot closer to Seoul. Anyways just wondering if people are still interested in jamming.

Cheers
