|
|
I'm thinking of sticking around for an additional year here and would be interested in some information re online masters degree programs (business). I've researched it a bit but have no way of knowing which programs are reputable and which are a complete waste of time and money.
I love all you beautiful people |

I'm looking into the same things, and my guess is that doing it distance ed from a brick and mortar uni would look better, but I'm not really sure.
For the mods-the threads already stickied are mostly about M.A.s, not MBAs |

Have been looking at online MBAs and am still thinking of doing one... not until the Dip's out of the way though. Most of them are reputable... just bloody expensive. Even the Open University one in the UK is nearly 10,000 pounds sterling. Here's a link to some online courses...

masters degree programs (business) |
Check Herriot Watt in Scotland. Rated in the top 10 MBA programs in the world in the Economist.
Manchester U, is also a good program, little easier I think but great rep as well.
Just have some money to spend 10-20 G's.
The best way to find a 'real' school is too look at the fees. Generally real masters cost real money.
After you've done some research, if you're interested in Herriot Watt, drop me a p.m. I can likely help some with getting enrolled or getting more info.

Are you interested in a program that is entirely online, or something where you can get credits to use in the future? I took a few online classes (in education, not business) from a "regular" college to speed up getting my Master's, and these were as acceptable as any. Sorry I don't know much about wholely online programs, but you might want to check and see what the University of Phoenix offers online, since they are becoming the McDonalds of business education, and I know that many friends have been sent there by their company for training. |

I will be starting my master's in Early Childhood Education next week through the University of Phoenix. |
I looked into Phoenix a few weeks back...as i said in the OP, I am most concerned about the cache this type of diploma will carry upon returning to the N.American job market.
Right now, online/distance education is the only option I have. If phoenix is reputable i'd be game to throwing my clams their way. |

Very interested in this kind of stuff. Need to sit down and research it, but don't know where to begin. Did a few Google searches and saved a few links for a cold snowy day, but definitely thinking about bizniss. |

A semi shameless plug for my Alma Mater and another plug for a couple of very good online university reesources:
One of the top 75 MBA programs in the world is delivered by Athabasca University: http://www.athabascau.ca and they have several options for specializations. It is delivered entirely via distance (there are some optional get-togethers I believe) The cost is around $30,000 CDN but I've heard nothing but good things about them. I took the Maser of Distance Education Degree from A.U. and I would recommend their school in a heartbeat to anyone who would care to ask. They really know how to deliver programs well.
Another resource you may want to look at for sources of online master's programs is at http://bain4weeks.com/mastermenu.html <-- the home page of this site is a "how-to" guide to achieving an accredited Bachelor's degree by taking graduate exams, CLEP exams, and such, but this page is about accredited universities that offer Master's degrees in many fields entirely by distance. The lowest cost MBA they have listed is under $7000.00 and is accredited.
I'd be glad to discuss distance degrees with you further if you would like to email me

Sparkx you don't want Phoenix. I just ran across www.ripoffreport.com and have cancelled all my plans. Too bad as I was really looking forward to having classes again. |
Don't take my response as a plug for the University of Phoenix as the only personal experience I have with them is having spoken to their militant sales force.
But I did end up doing my Bachelors online at an american university. I had attended traditional university here in Canada for 3 years then moved to the opposite side of the country and there was no option to complete the degree via distance ed. After 8 years I decided I wanted to teach overseas and needed a 4 year degree to get a visa.
With transfer credits, CLEPs, life experience and a full course load I was able to finish my comp sci degree in about 8 months (and $15000). It was the right choice for me, but not likely for everyone.
The one thing I noted was that most of the students expected the courses to be easier because they were online. Convenient does not mean easier.
Most of the posts on http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/ripoff77954.htm seem like people that were not ready for university or didn't know what they were getting themselves into. The problem is on-line is a business and often programs will be watered down to accommodate people like this. (granted there are good students who have bad experiences online.)
I guess what I am saying is know why you are doing it, know if the program is credible (research) and make a proper assessment of your ability.
My friend is currently doing his Phd through university of Phoenix. I don't talk to him often enough to know the quality but he is teaching computer systems at a university in the UAE (United Arab Emirates) and they are picking up the tab so it must be an acceptable program on some level. |

In N.America, I don't think people respect online degrees very much. Just my opinion. |
