I teach a newspaper class once a week at my hagwon. The paper is written mostly by young people and is targeted for ESL students. For the most part it is an enjoyable class. It seems lately that there is always an article about other countries "stealing" Korea's culture. They usually blame China and Japan (of course). I don't like to teach these articles becuase it helps to fuel the already too aparent dislike of these other Asian nations. One article accused the Chinese of stealing Korea's musical culture because pirated Korean CDs have been sold there. Koreans should be happy about this because it means their music is spreading.
I try my best to put a positive spin on the issues while leaving them with enough room to make up their own minds. |

I had a helluva time convincing my kids that yukhwi (that korean steak tartar) dish came from the Mongols and not all Korean foods didn't spring whole from the sea foam. |
