I've been using Firefox for the past few months, problem free for the most part. Last night though, when I tried to open it, it said I needed to create a new user profile, because the default one was in use. WTF?
I just went along with it, created a new profile- entered a new name really, but lost all my bookmarks in the process. I checked both the internal help files, and the firefox support site, and couldn't find anything on user profiles. I did a system restore to get my settings and bookmarks back, but I'm wondering what the hell happened. |

Hey Pep,
Something that used to happen with Netscape and Mozilla rings true here. If Firefox hadn't closed properly and was still running as a process in memory then it might ask that you start a new profile. Check the support info on the mozilla/firefox site.

Which version BTW? And did you upgrade without uninstalling a previous version? |

Okay, I was using version 1.0 the preview release, and just stumbled across this for future reference:
Look in your profile directory for file called parent.lock, lock, or .parentlock. Delete the file. (The file is created on start-up to prevent multiple instances of Mozilla or Mozilla-based browser from accessing the same profile simultaneously. The file is destroyed on exit.) |
