So I can just show up, and they will sew more pages in... |

I ran out of pages when I was in Thailand. At the consulate in Chiang Mai, they stuck the new pages in for free. They are actually stuck in with an adhesive tape, not sewn. I was given 24 new pages I believe, labeled "A" through "X". Now, with all the moving around that I've been doing, it won't be long before I'm gonna need even more. (I'm down to about 5 pages now). My passport is still valid till '08, but I wouldn't mind getting a new one since I had a goatee and was stoned in the photograph. The immigration folks always give it a good long look and ask if it's really me. |

Hey Whatthefunk, why did you ever change your avatar. I thought you had the best one out there. I usually imagine the avatar communicating the words getting posted, and that creepy bug-eyed look just rang out "Pohang" so well. |

just needed a change, but i agree with you. the flashing WHAT THE FUNK with the weird cut out faces is right cool, but i began to feel a certain attachment to my old one and am considering going back. but then again, pohang is in the past and something new and undescribable as emerged within me and maybe my new avatar is that new something flashing its way out...dont know. |

I don't remember being charged when I had that done last year.
In fact:
"Add Pages
We can also add pages to your existing passport if your travels have filled up the original book. Please download and complete an application for amendment/extension of passport (DS-19).
There is no fee for this service. Adding pages can be done without your making a trip to the Embassy. Processing time is only about three working days. Here's how to get your passport to us to add pages:
You may add several additional page inserts to the same passport; there is no limit to the number. If the passport begins to become unwieldy with numerous extra page inserts you can renew your passport in advance of the expiration date. All the normal fees and forms are required for a passport renewal."
Ask the Consul
Sounds like chiaa wound up paying for someone's retirement party. |

when the passport expires, do we have to fork it over to get a new one? I don't want to lose all my groovy visas and stamps. |

I guessed wrong... |

Answer--you get to keep it. They will just stamp 'cancelled' on the signature page and punch some holes in it near the outside edge. |

Yeah, you can go to the embassy and they will give you new pages for about $40. Not sure of the cost, but I've done it. |
