Hi. I've only been in Seoul about 6 or 7 weeks and am badly in need of coloring my hair. It's pretty blonde and I've been told that Korean salons can't really get blonde hair right and it comes out sort of orangy...this scares me.
Can anyone recommend a good hair salon in Seoul where you've had your hair colored and it turned out ok? Preferrably blonde...apparently, Asian hair doesn't take the chemical's the same as caucausion hair.
Also, can anyone tell me about a good, preferrably cheaper, gym in Kangnam?
I'll travel anywhere in Seoul for the hair salon but as for the gym - the closer to Yeoksam Station the better.
Thanks so much! I appreciate it.

The turtle place- above Burger King in Itaewon has a good reputation for dealing with foreigners hair. I can't say anything first hand about the coloring, but it's where I go when I want more than a trim. |

Thanks Butterfly. This looks like a place that could handle it. I'll try them. |

Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to let you know I tried Tony and Guy's yesterday - the place Butterfly had recommended. My hair looks awesome.
The directions they gave me over the phone were HORRIBLE! They told me completely the opposite way than I should have been going once off the subway and I ended up getting lost for about 45 minutes (don't have a cell phone yet either). So I went back to the subway and called them again. She gave me better directions but still wrong. A valet ended up telling me where they were. Anyway, here's basically where they are if you'd like to try them. From the subway:
Take the subway to Apgujeong. ---Orange line #3
Exit # 1
Walk straight for about 10 minutes or cross the street and take a cab for a few minutes to the Galleria Department store.
Across the street from the OLD Galleria there is a Citibank.
Turn right at the little alley by the Citibank.
Turn right at the dead-end and Tony and Guy's is, I think, the second building on your right.
These people are very competent. For blondes, they just did my roots and it still turned a little more brassy than it should have been but they knew to put bleach highlights overtop - which did the trick!
They are fairly pricy but not so much moreso than it cost me back home. Mine cost 170,000 Won but realize that they had to color my roots, wash my hair, blow dry it to see the color, then highlight it, wash it, and blow dry it again. I think for them to just color the roots it costs 50,000 won.
Anyway, if you are really worried about your hair looking right, and still willing to pay the money, go here. They are really nice too and it's pretty upscale.
Good luck!

Butterfly hooks another sister up
Actually, better directions is to know that Toni & Guy hair salon is on the road that runs parallel to Rodeo street, next to the Diesel fashion store, on the other end of the street to designer club / california fitness. Chungdam dong. |

For those who want a non-Korean (i.e., someone used to cutting/dyeing "Caucasian" hair) hair-styling experience, yet are on a budget, I recommend the Russian-operated salon "Ulybka" near Dongdaemun in Seoul. It's only been open a couple of months and could use some steady patronage. |

There is a Toni and Guy salon in coex mall also. I tried there yesterday, and have to say its the first korean haircut without a line that makes my hair look like I am wearing a wig or where I look like a fluffy egg type thing afterwards. |
