Do you really think it's bad for the plumbing to flush your toilet paper??? Even if it is, how gross is keeping used toilet paper in a garbage can in your bathroom?

Anyone ever have any serious plumbing issues related to flushing the toilet paper?

As a potential lifer, this question is important to me.

Depends on the public bathroom. If there's a sign up, I'll put it in the waste bucket. If not, flush. Pretty simple.

Well I do flush it in public, at home I do too, but only if it is a SMALL amount of TP. We have had plumbing issues, but then again, I am in a small village here. My bf flushed ramyeonn once, and we had to borrow a plunger from a neighbour. They have some funky plungers here too, so be careful.

Nope.. you'll notice little bins next to many toilets... you're expected to put the TP in there.. apparently some pipes aren't thick enough and over time they clog..

That being said.. that's mainly an issue with older buildings.. I've never had a problem and any of my places with flushing and I absolutely refuse to set up a bin..

I thought that bin was for paper that had only been used once?

I pick a piece from there, wipe on the clean side and then flush it.

It goes in the toilet at home, despite the fact that I live in a reeeallllly old building. I never flush a big "wad" of it.....just use smaller wads, and 3 or 4 flushes if need be Shocked Never had a problem.

My dumb-arse idiotic boyfriend has even flushed the kon-dom-suh a few times Embarassed

The only reason I dont' flush it in public is because once when I was about 5, I overflowed a public toilet in a department store and it flooded the entire bathroom, and it took me years to even FLUSH a public toilet again....I can't risk an overflowing toilet in the bathroom of my favourite galbi restaurant....I could lose all of the advancements I've made Confused

Another disgusting Korean habit (along with spitting in ashtrays). It's an urban myth with about the same currency as 'fan death'. Apparently there was a period during which Korean TP had the approximate consistency of plywood, and it wouldn't pass through the (still) dodgy pipes. These days, unless you've taken on a heavy Mexican dinner, the plumbing should withstand normal assaults.

Don't believe you for a second...but guys like you are the reason they don't bother putting soap in men's public toilets.

First apartment - toilet clogged constantly hence we had to get a wastebasket.

second apartment - once again, even more nasty, every time some paper went down it would clog, another wastebasket.

Third apartment- good as gold and just flush but it is a lot newer.

Really, getting a wastebasket isn't that bad, much better than having to unclog the toilet all the time.

The first time I ever went shopping for a plunger, the guy in the market proudly handed me this thing that looked like a giant bicycle pump with some kind of rubber gasket over the open end. Dubious, I took it home and tried it...maybe there is a trick to it but I never got it to work. Was very happy to find the good old suction-cup-on-a-tube-type like back home.
