Hi there, I am a Chinese-Canadian and just got offered a position with a reputable school in Seoul. I am currently waiting for a reply from Nova and Peppy kids club in Japan as well. That said, I know that Koreans are more picky about who teaches their children compared to Japan.
How would Korean parents react to me, a Chinese-Canadian teaching their children English? From what I've read everywhere, schools don't hire Chinese because parents prefer Whites...Thus, I feel very lucky of being accepted to this school.
Hope you guys can help me out here! |

if it's a reputable school, i think you can be assured that they know how the parents will react. it all depends on the management and the clientelle of your particular school, IMHO.
there is a chinese american working at my school, which is also very reputable...and she has no problems at all with parents.
that aside, i wonder if they are offering you less money due to the fact that you have some Chinese heritage.
do not feel lucky about being offered the job...at least not yet. |

Thanks for the reply. I believe I'm getting a good wage, 2 million won with free accomodation walking distance to the school. Since this is such a golden opportunity, I am definitely leaning towards me...
I need to get started processing my visa immediately though as the position starts in December...how long does it take to process? |

this question might sound silly but how does the employer send you:
1. the contract from your future employer (determine how many copies they require, often 3-4)
2. the Sponsorship Letter of Guarantee from your future employer guaranteeing your employment for the term specified in the contract and their company registration papers
3. certificate of employment
I read in a site you need all those to get your E-2 visa. Do they fax it to you, email it, slow-mail them? Sorry for being so clueless. I have never worked overseas before. |

Chances are they'll send it by courier, so depending on where you are, 2 or 3 days- less than a week for sure. |
