Where is it? North, South, East, West, Northwest....? Can I get there on the subway? If so...which line/station?
I keep being offered jobs in this place...but I can't find it in the Lonely Planet. |

Bucheon is a lovely town that Le Corbusier would have loved. It is between Seoul and Incheon. It is a manufacturing city, with huge housing complexes, that would make our man Le Corbuseir heart jump for humanity, and what humanity it is! I like these huge housing complexes if only for the economy of scale they produce. I mean all services are available right there in your neighborhood. Korea is great in this way. Check out the city, it's population is almost 800,000 I think. It is advantageous to think of Bucheon as another couple of Gus, or districts of Seoul. That might help get your head around the place a bit better. |

bucheon is a 'satellite city'. it is between inchon and seoul. there is an expressway so in-seoul-working-folks can commute at high speed. it used to be a pear orchard minding its own business until apartments began springing up. william beckerson says picture an endless stripmall. it doesn't really have any sort of character as old neighbourhoods would. it has all been manufactured very recently, booming. it's about an hour from seoul station by subway. personally, i HATED IT. it was too uniform for me. there's enough of that in north america. i came to korea to see something 'korean'. but if all the pleasures of walmart, carrefour, and on are your craving, then come for the convenience! |

Unfortunately I currently live in Bucheon. Fortunately I am leaving tomorrow. Imagine a sea of yellow and grey...a souless, grim chernobylesque concrete wasteland where every day is monday.
there are a few older districts in bucheon including the one i live in , sosa...this is even worse than downtown bucheon..a relic of the eighties where i sidestep dog shit and vomit on my way to school.
It takes roughly 35 minutes on the subway from sosa to yongsan station on line 2...
My advice is to steer clear of the area..the 'expat' bar in the centre of pucheon, halloween is reason enough.
And if anyone offers you a job at Oedae language institute - DONT TAKE IT.
All in all a classy little place. |

i'm in the bucheon area, and i kind of like it. not nearly as crowded as seoul and even the occasional tree. but i'm toward the undeveloped areas
its a lot like an american suburb, except that instead of houses, there are endless apartments |

I live beside Bucheon station at the moment. New 15 storey building (one year old), but damn near everything else is the area is 3 story or less and very much all built during the 70s or early 80s.
But it's a quick ride to Seoul, especially if you get the express subway. And everything you need is right here.
I'm moving in a couple weeks closer to Songnae station. There I move into a new building where EVERYTHING is three years old or less. Basically the government said "ok, we slapped down a bunch of criss-crossed 6 and eight lane roads, overpasses, and freeway links. We're building a subway along here too. Now go wild with the development."
It's bizarre seeing an entire city be built up around you. Or being able to count more than 50 apartment buildings in a row under construction before coming across something that existed before. |

You may find in older publications that it's called "Puchon". Same place, different romanization. Once again I will share my nickname for Puchon- "The sphincter of Seoul". I think it's an accurate description. It occupies a half dozen or so stations on the #1 line to Inchon. |

This looks like a question that could be answered by Bucheon Bum. |
