I left my house at 6.30 this morning. I got on a bus with some students and teachers from school. We got on a train and another train to get to yangjae station. From there we caught a bus to Jinju. bus doesn't have much leg room. I had motion sickness. I wasn't happy. Korean teachers fussing annoyed me even more. But worse was sitting next to someone eating squid jerky.
At Jinju I braved the furious crowds at the wedding hall and had a meagar lunch. Cause I'm still queezy. But my vice princpal keeps ordering me to eat more than a bit of rice......... ick. The the ceremony itself. Every kid in the room announced that a waygookin was present. Usual cacophy of cell phones and people talking. The bride cries. Then of course we have to wait for the damn photos.
Finally we get to high tail it out of Jinju. Back on the bus.
With the squid and the 'are you oik' 'eat something'. 6 hours later get back to seoul. I still have a 90 minute journey to my place. The most english I mutttered all day was to the bride and that was the usual 'you look beautiful' 'congratulations' Also made the mistake of wearing boots that weren't broken in properly so now my toes hurt like crazy.
Thank god I can finally drink my bottle of soju. I think I've earned it. |

Hahaha...that'll teach you to venture out of your appartment...enjoy your soju..
yeah, I've gradually learned to take korea as much on my own terms as possible, retain as much control over my life and what I do, which social occasions I attend, as is possible. Just say no" is a good way to look at any potential social engagements that have a high discomfort potential.
I was shopping today, often a likewise traumatic process due to the harrassment from the shopkeepers desperate to make a sale, or an international welcome. I've learned not to smile or pay them attention, but just bulldoze through my browsing until I find exactly what I want, they can cut the B.S. |
