|
|
Just recently moved to Mokpo and want to get into the gym. Need someone to show me how to work out-proper amount of cardio vs weight training -kick my butt when i wnat to give up etc. I need a personal trainer. Any phys-ed majors out there or would I be able to find a korean who speaks some English? Any help would be appreciated-I am willing to pay for such a service. |

Personal trainer?!
Have you watched those magic fitness commercials?
You surely didn't expect something with such a short history as the profession of personal trainer to be in Korea, especially a relatively smaller community? Just don't complain if you don't find one.
That said, the locals often are willing to "correct" your techniques in the gym, whether or not you agree with them. |

There are numberous personal trainers all over Korea. Daejeon, Ulsan, Yangsan...Yangsan is the same size or smaller than Mokpo and there were three gyms in my area each with a personal trainer. That said, most personal trainers (whether here or back home) don't have much of a clue about how to workout.
As for the OP you are probably best off educating yourself. Do some experimentation and find out what works best for your body. Find out what exercises work best for you, what rep and set range is optimal, what level of weights you should be using... The problem with using a personal trainer is that too often they either put you on their program, or a standarized version. However everyone is different and what works for one person may not work for another. For example take the behind the neck press. Some people like this and swear by it. However for many people it can destroy their shoulder joint, particularly if they have "tight" shoulders.
Anyway just my two cents. |

I couldn't agree more with this post.
Avoid Korean fitness trainers like the plague!! I've been working out for for almost 15 years and have been a member of 6 different gyms here in Korea. Every trainer I've met conducts their sessions like military drills (no beginner or intermediate levels - everything is advanced/expert with the intent of pushing the trainee to their breaking point) and most of them have no clue about proper technique. Most exercises they promote serve only to strain and hyperextend...
Check out some fitness websites, determine your short and longterm goals and create a program accordingly. |

No joke...the trainer at my gym wants to get all buddy buddy with me and frequently trys to coerce me into going out to the smokers room for a quick ciggarette...even when i'm halfway through a workout.
You don't really need to pay anyone to train you...find some buddys that workout and tag along with them. |

Don't use a trainer. Surf the internet and search for the best program for YOU. It's trial and error. Jogging is great for losing quick pounds. Diet, eat less fatty foods, skip rope, sit ups, pull ups, etc and you'll be great!
Exercise is all about self control. Period. look around you and you'll see many fat people. Lazy and no will power to exercise and even a trainer can't help you! You need the right frame of mind to stick with it.
Again..."find" your own exercises, try different things and stick with what you enjoy the most. I don't have to add that PT's are worthless....you'll do better on your own if you stick with it. |
