Anybody do any RAM shopping at Yongsan at all in the recent past? How were the prices?

Thinking about browsing for and maybe buying some more system memory, currently only at 256mb which is perfect for basic comp use and even most games up till somewhat recently.

Thing is I am not wanting to take any chances, I will try to keep any new RAM sticks I buy as exactly as possible to the current one stick I have: Corsair PC-3200 CAS2, in order to prevent any possible system problems ... Wondering what a stick of 512mb of Corsair PC3200 is going at Yongsan, if they even carry it. On the newegg website they list it at $152, still rather high. Zipzoomfly has it at only $117... Hard to find electronics companies that even ship international it seems, doesn't it?

Anyways if anyone was looking at RAM modules recently please say what you saw and what you thought, even if different brands... thanks.

not really,

it depends if you're getting two 512 sticks or one 1gig stick... I've found 1 gig sticks are more like 4 times the price of a 512 (for my laptop anyhow)

Not true at all. Samsung and Hynix RAM has some of the slackest timings in the business. Wouldn't touch it at all. Kingmax, Geil, Kingston, Corasir, Mushkin....brand names mean a lot.

Can anyone tell me if you can trade in a RAM stick and get an ugrade? I have a 500 meg stick, would like to trade it in for a 1 gig stick and pay about 120 000 won. Is this possible?

No. Assuming that they gave you 100% of the retail price of your RAM to you in credit towards a 1GB stick, you would still be looking at more than 120,00 Won owing with the price difference.

Brand matters a lot.
The Samsung and Hynix RAM is almost all CAS 3 and performs a lot worse than anything else you can find.
The prices of the higher priced RAM are usually justified by the quality and performance of the RAM chips. Not always, but usually.
Myself, I'm quite fond of the GEiL and TwinMOS RAM, because even the basic modules are CAS 2.5 at PC3200 speeds.
As for the original question, you can get Corsair RAM here at not un-reasonable prices. Another 256MB PC3200 module would start at around 60,000 won, but I'm not sure of the timings on that module. It's best to match the timings, and even match the module type if possible. Most of the Corsair RAM is 2x256MB matched sets, or 2x512MB matched sets for this reason.
