As for the crime rate per 100,000 persons, Seoul had the highest rate.

1. Seoul (Highest)
2. Daejeon
3. Gwangju
4. Ulsan
5. Incheon
6. Busan
7. Daegu (Lowest)

Dong-A Ilbo used an analytic method of displaying all three major crimes--murder, rape, and robbery--on the map.

Very surprised that Busan and Daegu are lower than the others listed (excluding Seoul, which is a given).

The southeast, yeah! Life is different hereabouts.

Rank Geoje Island as number 375 on that list. Smile

Another of many reasons for some to live nowhere near the megacity.

(And people still ask: "Why don't you want to work in Seoul?" as if everybody does.)

I think Ulsan might be number 4 because very few people are really from here. That's also why people aren't as friendly and smiling as nearby Pusan (notice a BIG difference). Lots come for the jobs at the plants.
I live in Ulsan. Shocked Smile

I wonder if it were broken down into areas.

Yongsan-gu might account for a large % of Seoul's crime.

My wife and I lived in the Sadong area of Ulsan for three years and experienced relatively little crime and the locals were great. The crime as such was lots of bicycles got nicked. Smile

True. Korea is safer than most countries in the world. It doesn't mean that Korea is lacking in crime, because crime is as common there as in any other country. But it is very safe.

With the real economy showing little sign of improvement, more and more South Koreans are turning to crime. In particular, fraud, embezzlement and other economy-related illegalities have risen sharply, according to the National Police Agency (NPA).

nope.

the article wrote:

Within Seoul, areas with high living standards such as Gangnam-gu, Seocho-gu and Songpa-gu were reported to have many crimes in their neighborhood.

Gangnam-gu recorded a total of 126 cases, Seocho-gu had 113, and Songpa-gu had 88. These numbers were 1.3 to 1.9 times more that the average Seoul district, which was 64.8 cases, during the same period.

and before that:

Quote:
According to the result, the Gangnam area in Seoul is the place where major crimes occurred the most this year. In particular, areas near the crossroads of the Gangnam subway station turned out to the place with the highest frequency.

Busan seems to have saner traffic than Seoul. Could there be a connection? Smile
