|
|
I'm considering going to korea to teach English - i'd like to see things first hand rather than sign some contract from overseas. i know it will cost me a lot more but i think it's smarter..how long can i stay as a tourist? is it easy to pop over to japan for just a few days and re-enter korea? when i lived in tokyo, i left the country a few times so i could get a new 90 day stamp but i was hassled quite a bit and was even denied re-entry one time.
not sure how strict korea is. if i set up several interviews ahead of time i'm sure i could find a decent position soon after arriving. but i'd like to shop around and take time to talk to present and former teachers at various schools. maybe spend like two-three weeks looking before deciding.
oh, whats the average amount of time it takes for immigration to process a visa application?
if you've been asked these same ?s hundreds of times, thanx for your patience! any advice would be appreciated. |

For the UK (and I believe Ireland, Australia and NZ, possibly Canada too) the tourist visa is 90 days. For the US I believe it is 30 days. I've never heard of anybody getting into trouble about popping to Japan to renew their visa. I got my work visa processed in just a few hours by the Korean consulate in Fukuoka. |

The above, and you're doing it the smart way. There are a gazillion sh1tty jobs out there, and no one's going to look out for you but you.
Come on in, the water's great! |

You are doing it the right way and in the long run the risk to you(both mentally and financially) will be a lot less.

Yes, very easy.
Getting jobs lined up from overseas can be difficult as recruiters seem to dominate the schools here. better to come over and go to schools and expat hangouts and just scope it all out.
Good luck.

From the time the paperwork goes into immigration in Korea till the time you get it approved in a foreign country - about a week. |

Doesn't even have to be a few days.
As long as you leave Korea, you can come right back on the next flight.
I've done it. |

I think it's 6 months for Canadians, or so I've been told. |

But the paperwork has to processed here in Korea first so you can get your blue form. That takes a few working days, then you fly out and then come back the next day. |

Don't do it... You'll regret it for the rest of your life. This place is a hole. I wanna die. Stay home and have a nice life. Marry a nice girl. Settle into a nice home with a nice car and have 2.4 kids...
Korea...
Hell no... (What was the question again?) |

That's what you get on arrival. From the US you can apply for a 90-day C-3 tourist visa. |

it took me around 10 days. before i left i searched for about a month, then let people (mainly recruiters) that I had been in contact with know that i was coming to Korea.
If you're not picky about where you want to be, I bet it would take you even less time. I was a bit anal about location: western seoul or bucheon (due to g/friend, not because that area is cool or anything). On the other hand, if you want to check out schools outside the Seoul area, it might be a bit more expensive since you'd have to pay for transportation costs to other cities and stuff.
You've made a good decesion. I got a much better job that way. |

I was referring to renewing a tourist visa. If you are getting the E-2, then yes, be sure you get the Blue Paper first! |
