Hello,

I'm going to Thailand from Dec.3 to the 16th. I'll be doing a couple of days in Bangkok, but the rest will be on the islands. I heard by a few people that the good parties don't happen until just after these dates.

Is this true? I don't wanna miss all the fun. Damn.

Thanks in advance for any info on this.

thailand is always fun. "all the parties" are those dumb fool moon parties. Not missing much, aside from the loser foreigners drunk and stoned pretending they are soo eccentric.

i went down to Koh Phangan for the fullmoon party a couple of times... but, i didn't really meet anyone pretending to be 'eccentric'...maybe i wasn't trying very hard.

i DID meet some regular folk from all over the world, many of whom were perpetual travellers...it's all very mainstream these days on Phangan. most shopkeepers have evn stopped haggling with prices.

a lot of the fun in Thailand is just being in the right place at the right time, or meeting a lot of people.

anyways, i was going to write an answer to your question, but then i realised that it's been covered to death on this board....do a search on this board for "thailand and islands" and you will find everything you need.

yah, BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM. Fire stick twirling, people trashing the place. *beep* the full moon parties. For a kick go to Surat Thani the next day and watch all the repulsive farang kii nok drug users being brought in from Koh Pha Ngan to be incarcerated for the next ten years..

I consider pretty much all of Thailand to be a running party (the Tiger Beer school of thought), but how 'fun' it is depends on what you call fun.

1) for the time you are there, it is a little early for most people's vacations. The weather will be beautiful, but most people (like us) are there mid Dec - mid Jan.

2) you didn't mention which islands you are heading towards. Samet is beautiful, & one of my personal favorites. Samui is an island BKK. Phangan is one of the hosts of the FMPs, but not the only one.

3) my opinion of FMPs is like pretty much else - it is what you are expecting of it & what you put into it. I agree that it did have it's 'heyday' that has passed, but you could still go & have fun.

4) the drug thing is no joke, where the Thai government is concerned. PLENTY of stuff to read about that here in the threads, or over at the LP site.

With the land, the sea, the food, the culture, the Thai rum, the beautiful women, the massages, the inexpensive souvenirs, yesyesYES - you can have lots o fun.

Personally, we will be in Puerto Galera, but that is NOT knocking Thailand!!!

Regards,

G & C

Drop out of the sky and look and smell like crap.
Funny, most Thais are very very hospitable and welcoming toward foreigners. Some of my friends there seem very embarassed when they find out some farangs know about this phrase. Makes them appear bad hosts.
I always tell them I don't care, for the most part it's true.
