So I'm buying my new 1 gig of RAM at Technomart last week and the young guy serving starts wrapping each of my 512mb sticks in tin foil!!

I thought, static being the big danger to chips, that tin foil was the last thing you should wrap them in! It conducts electricity!!

And why they don't have anti-static plastic bags I'll never know.

Yes, I know what you mean. I have never had any problems though. Although you want to be careful now with static especially coming into winter.

Umm.. anti-static bags conduct electicity too. Have you never noticed they're made of aluminum? If they didn't conduct, static electricity could build up inside.

The tin foil conducts electricity, so there's no danger of static buildup. It's a useful protective measure. And since it's a lot cheaper than anti-static bags, they use it instead.

They're not crazy. Just cheapskates.

Okay. Now I see. I guessed a guy dealing exclusively in RAM knew what he was doing but you can never be sure.....
