If someone goes to Japan and gets the E-2 visa, comes back to Korea and promptly gets sacked without ever having gone to immigration in Mokdong to get the alien card etc...
Does that mean they have to leave the coutry within ten days or do they have the three months that is on their passport?? |

yes, you have 3months, unless the school releases you through immigration..in which case, you have 15 days. |

Do you have the E-2 visa stamped in your passport? When you reentered Korea, did they give you a tourist visa or just stamp you for your entry? If you have the E-2 then you probably dont have a tourist visa and you better leave...
I dont think that the alien registration has anything to do with your actual visa status but i may be wrong.. |

the E2 expires within 3 months unless you get alien registration.
Not sure how soon you can get a fresh E2 after that:) I would bet, a year later. |

Only it doesn't. The E2 expires in 90 days if the paperwork has been issued to get an E2 but is then not processed at a foreign consolate/embassy.
That status of one's alien registration in the country is not related to their visa. Even Canadians on 180 tourist visas are required to register within 90 days for their alien registration card, yet their tourist visas do not magically expire on day 91 of their stay despite failing to register. |

How does that work? If a Canadian is here on on tourist visa then how do they register for an ARC card? I thought you needed info from an employer? |

I'm pretty sure, not 100% though, that you need to be legally employed, have a work visa, before you get an ARC.
Why would you have an ARC if not legally employed? Doesn't the ARC show where you work? Immigration won't give an ARC if you aren't legally employed. And if you aren't legally employed, would you go anywhere near immigration anyway? |

this is very true.
for example one can stay in korea on a f2 or f4 visa and this has nothing to do with working, it is just a requirement of immigration for anyone wanting to stay here longer than 90 days.
The arc thing is completely seperate from the visa.
So if you get your visa issued in japan, or anywhere, then enter korea on that visa, your visa is issued and can only be cancelled with immigration, as everyone else has said the visa will not automatically cancle after 90 days if you dont get an arc.
however i suspect you could be liabloe for fines etc if you did not get the arc issued or if you were to stop working and didn't tell the immigration guys.
as for getting another visa, you would need a release letter and all the other stuff, the same as leaving one employer and changing to another. |
