Recently, a friend of mine has applied to get an E-2 added to his F2-1 visa. I had always thought this to be an easy process but he has hit a snag and it is one that I thought couldn' be hit once you had an F2

He left his previous job before the end of his contract. Went home...married a Korean and came back under an F2.

Now Incheon immigration is asking for a letter of release from his old boss. I am not sure why. But the kicker is that the immigration official told him that teachers, even those with F2's, always need to get a letter or release.

I was under the impression that my F2, got one this summer after leaving Hong Kong and coming to Korea, allowed me to change jobs without the dreaded letter of release.

I need a link to a site that I can show to immigration..if I am right...or one that tells me that everything I thought I knew about F2 visas is wrong.

Thanks in advance.

I've had no problems adding a new E2 onto my F2-1 visa... it was a simple case of turning up at immigration with all the requisite paperwork related to the new one and saying "please cancel the previous one". Never needed a release letter or anything related to the old place of employment.

Can't help with any website links though I'm afraid.. just empirical evidence Wink

Try looking around on the Immigration web site http://www.moj.go.kr/immi/08_english/index.php

The search function isn't very good, but maybe it'll work better for you.

Look around on the site or post a question directly to them.

Cheers

Only done it once and again, I had no problems. Talk to the bird who sits on the right as you look at the desks. She is always helpful.

I don't think my first E2 was cancelled as it is still on the back of my card for all to see and it doesn't expire until March of next year. She added my current one happily.

I think, with an F2-1, you can have as many E2's as you want. You aren't restricted to having just one.

Maybe wrong though.

This puts me on 1,000 posts again!! Yeah!!
