I wonder if any of you guys can help. Recently I haven't been able to open a link in another window. The original page just kind of hangs, doesn't respond and goes back to normal after a time, but doesn't open the new link.

Any ideas guys 'cos I can't get into my Diploma site and I have to upload a shedload of stuff soon.

All help gratefully appreciated.

This might be one of those super obvious things, but are you using any kind of pop up blocker? if so, try turning it off.

The same thing happened to me at my last job, I fixed it by uninstalling Internet explorer (I had installed 6 over 5.5) then reinstalling it. Problem solved.

Maybe just try reinstalling explorer, I suspect something got damaged by a virus or some such thing.

Assuming you are using the Mighty Microsoft browser, of course.

yep, reinstalling it might well work. Uninstalling IE totally is a pain. DL it and reinstall it and it should fix itself.

But with Firefox 1 imminent, it must be time to consider life without IE... Wink

Thanks one and all. It was IE 6 and SP2 might have something to do with it.

Have installed Firefox and am more than happy with it. Would like to keep IE as back up though.

Thanks again, guys.

J

See you tomorrow Sainty!

Hopefully they will fix the innability of Firefox to run several websites properly. Especially popular Korean sites like www.enuri.com, and cyworld web pages where it won't display many required popups and links won't work properly.

I'd like to be able to say that Firefox is a "great alternative" too, but it's just not there yet. Most people don't like hunting the web every five minutes to find some dubious file that will allow their browser to work -- and then try to figure out how to install it properly -- that is the current reality of Firefox.

Newbees, don't believe me? Just try it. You'll be back to IE shortly when you start to realize that you're missing important elements to the web pages you want to see.

Don't knock my answer... I'm inviting you to try it also.

It's your decision.

You must be using a different Firefox from me. I haven't downloaded anything to get sites to work. Granted, I hardly ever used Korean sites but even some recent sites posted here don't display properly even in IE.

But the main issue is that people simply aren't scripting properly for a range of browsers. Instead they script for IE, check it and see it's okay and stop there. They presume we are all using it. This panders entirely to Microsoft's wishes... so if you have shares in Microsoft, I understand your refusal to support other browsers Derrek.

Having one browser industry wide is a security problem as we well know. It also means competition sucks and scripters get lazy.

A few more reasons to stop using IE... Wink

I tried your link Derrek here's my results:
enuri.com won't open in Firefox.
enuri.dom didn't open when I selected 'open this link in IE' from firefox.

I don't visit a lot of Korean sites but I've encountered no difficulty when I need to do so.

As for pop-ups both IE and Firefox don't allow pop-ups. You can change the settings in both to allow pop-ups if you wish.

You can add extensions to Firefox which allows you to choose 'open this page in IE' and 'Windows Update' which opens in IE. I rarely need to do this. My bank requires IE for me to check my balance. That's their choice not a Firefox malfunction.

Select the tools menu and click on 'extensions'. Click on 'get more extensions'.
Click on 'Firefox Support' or 'Firefox Help' on the Bookmarks Toolbar above or from the Bookmarks Toobar folder in bookmarks to the left. Firefox has all kinds of help including a forum.

It's difficult to have sympathy for you Derrek or even to accept your criticism when you won't make any effort to solve your own problems. It seems pretty clear by now that you have some bizarre reason to turn people off Firefox or any alternative browsers. Why do you care what browser people use?

Firefox works. IMHO and experience its better than IE for security and available options(extensions).

One good extension that would be worth its weight in gold would be like the one Opera has - a kind of cloak that identifies it as IE. This fools sites that refuse to allow any other browser, like my bank and sites I use for work, into thinking they are dealing with IE. Great on Opera... be nice to see the option on Firefox.

Derrek, I also tried enuri.com. The right hand side of the main page doesn't load properly in Firefox. But on every other page I clicked on, it loaded fine. I wish it did load fine but the fact that a handful of pages don't open in Firefox is really not a major concern of mine. Security is.
