I'm a newbie and will be arriving next week. Can anyone give me a little wisdom for the first day of work/ meeting your employers? Should I bring gifts? If so, what? Also, I've taken Korean for two years...should I attempt to speak Korean to them? Or will this result in a lot of laughs? Should I make any preparations? (I'll be teaching kindergarten)

Give me any advice you have! I'm really nervous about all of this. . .

Thanks so much!

I'd say trying to speak in Korean would be a nice ice breaking gesture. Most Koreans I've worked with know some English, but are too embarassed/afraid of making a mistake to actually talk to a whitey. Even if you horribly butcher the language, it might allow them to let their guard down a bit.

I gave a bottle of wine from home to my prinicipal and a box of chocolates to my co-teacher, not too pricey, you don't know these people yet so it really is the thought that counts.

Poo-in-tea lacks the inherent, mystical quality of poo-in-coffee to create a lasting impression, but yeah, I suppose it would be sufficient.

Seriously, though, just bring the boss something that is of universal appeal, and watch the rewards gush forth.

It's always fun to see the veteran response versus the people that just came here.

Newbies...oh op you should do this! I want to give helpful advice.

Veterans....well you know..figure the $h-t out for yourself

Or even better..

I'm thinking of coming to Korea...so you should...i know someone that once worked in Korea.
