My parents - GOD BLESS THEM!!!! - just gave me a digital camera for my excursion to Korea, as an early Christmas gift (I of course won't be around to celebrate.) Wicked 'cause I had planned on buying one myself once I had arrived. They also included a 256 mb sd card. My question is "how many pictures would that store? The camera itself included a 16 mg card, which I understand may only hold around 20 pics. I'm just curious as I'm very excited about such an unexpected gift and am curious about how many pics this could store. The camera is a Canon PowerShot A400 (good enough for me and my needs.) The sd card is a "Lexor" (I hope I spelled the name correctly.) My parents know nothing about technology, so I'm not too concerned with comparisons to other products and what they may offer as opposed to the cam my beloved folks gave me. I think it is f'ing sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm just curious about how many pics I can take with this card. (p.s.) They also gave me a battery charger, 8 chargeable batteries, case and other shit. COMPLETELY UNEXPECTED!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't want to go on a rant but WOW! My brother just had me over for dinner, I come home to my folks place, and there is a miniature Christmas tree in the family room with gifts for me underneath!!!! Words escape me, literally. But I won't rub it in/bug any of you with my unexpected encounter with such fortunes. I am curious about the picture capacity of a 256 mb card, though. Thanks for your info and God Bless Ma and Pa KJJ!!!!!!!!!! Awesome.

You gotta love parents!!!!!!!!! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

256 will hold alot.... it all depends on the resolution of the images ie. the size of the pictures you're taking... the higher the resolution the more space each picture takes which limits your per picture capacity of your memory card.... at the lowest setting for image resolution i think your card can hold well over 1500 pictures.... im not sure bout that exact number.... i have a 64 meg memory card and on my camera's lowest resoution my card holds around 380 pictures.

Oh yeah, you can save a lot of pictures. I actually keep my camera set for a low resolution of under 1.1 megabits, since I don't do prints, just email pics. Even at 1.1 megebits I have to reduce the images by about 30% just to make them "not huge". Anyway, I've got a 128 meg card and I'm sure I could easily get 500 pictures on it.

Those of you who are suggesting using a low resolution so that you can fit more photos on a memory card may later regret doing so.

If you have a really great photo you may want to enlarge and / or print it. Unfortunately, if the resolution is low, the quality of your print(s) will be poor.

You can always decrease the resolution of a stored image BUT you cannot increase the resolution of an image above that at which it has been stored.

My suggestion is to save your photos at as high a resolution as possible and download from the camera's memory card to your computer as often as possible. If you find your computer's hard drive becoming full you can always save some of the photos stored on it at a lower resolution and delete the high resolution originals.

I have two 128 mb memory cards and take heaps of photos but I have never run out of capacity.

Every month or so I burn a CD with all my photos and post it to family in Australia. That serves two purposes ........ 1. my family gets to see what I've been doing. ..............2. I have a back up in case my computer 'dies' or is stolen.

If you limit yourself to medium 1 setting (1600x1200 claimed res.) you should get between about 850 and 200 shots, dependant on the quality setting (normal, fine, or superfine).

Can I be adopted by your parents? All I ever got was a kick in the arse and a thick ear.
