hello - this is my first post. i've been seoul for one week now and i'm feeling a little isolated and depressed. i'm the only foreigner at my hagwon. i'm staying with a korean friend i met in the states, who is amazing, but i'd really like to meet some other foreigners. she doesn't really go out much, but i want to check out korean night life. how do i meet people? |

ohh we just had a daves party.. you missed that.. BUT..
you could try and drag your korean friend out one night and go to ITAEWON you will see many foreigners there.. so its up to you strike up a conversation or be open to someone talking with you..
thats one way..
other ways , do you like sports?
there are ton or sports groups here that meet every weekend..
ultimate freesbie, soccer, rugby, galelic football, hash harriers, etc...
take korean classes, join a foreign church.. go to itaewon and pick up a magazine called.. seoul classified.. thats a good start too..
goodluck..
also get active on this board.. |

GREAT!!!!
Send a newbie that is feeling lost to ITAEWON.
Full of american grade 9 dropouts that couldn't get a job anywhere else and Canadian ESL teachers that couldn't get laid in their own country...

International Herald Tribune, Friday edition has massive listings of exhibitions, shows, etc. You can buy the Trib at busy subway stations, or in any area foreigners commonly go...
Friend and I are going to a pricy (30,000 won) exclusive-type dance and music show on the 29th, it's at 7 pm or something like that. We're both American women, if you want to go, pm me. |

There are also Canadians who can get laid in their country, and here too. |

Consider learning Korean and join a Korean class. That way you can meet other foreigners and also begin to understand what's going on around you. It sounds rather obvious but Korea is a lot more fun and a lot less confusing when you know a little of the language. |

You like art, I recomment "Insa Dong Gil" ( Insa Dong Street ) which can be found near the "Jongno Sam Ga" subway stop on line 1. This street is famous as the art place. It's got galleries that have modern art, and it's got shops with lots of old style arts and crafts stuff, good cafes and restaraunts both modern and trad. And some lovely trad tea houses and temples too. It's a neat street!
As for people. Depends on your personality, some people can meet others in bars. Me, I don't mind meeting women in bars ... but for hooking up with like minded individuals and ensuring that I have a higher chance of having something in common with them that might spark a friendship, I've found this site to be pretty good. You get to observe people and thier opinions, interests, and personalities. Then you can choose to contact them via pm and possibly meet up. It's not fool proof, it just means that you're more likely to have slightly more in common than the fact that you are both foreigners in Korea. Everyone here is pretty friendly so work that pm function. Of course, meeting up is going to depend on location as well, as this is a big place ... |

If I were back in Korea today, I would be concerned about being stabbed in the back by my fellow expat. There are so many victim-kickers on this board out to score nothing but ideological brownie points. |
