are you both running an english version of windows or an asian version??? i think if you're running an asian version of windows, MS word spaces the lines like that to make asian characters more distinguishable from each other... my computer at work is running korean windows and spaces my lines the same way but my computer at home is running english windows and it spaces lines tighter.... however i'm just speculating

those settings you showed us and mine are identical but I don't have that problem. So the issue lies with settings elsewhere. Check that Asian TYpography tab...

ahh, i've resolved the problem. hogwonguy, go to the start menu--> microsoft office-->office tools-->language settings.

at the very bottom you'll see a pull-down menu that says 'choose the default language that describes...'. if you have the same problem that i had it probably has an asian language as the default setting. select english. that should solve the prob!
