|

So, considering working another year at my current school, and wondering the following:
For those of you who have signed for more than one year at a job, AND WENT HOME IN BETWEEN CONTRACTS did you ask for return airfare the second time as well?
Now, I know that the return airfare is basically to cover the sponsor demands of a school for an E2, and that after the first year you can just apply for a year extension...so the schools need to cover airfare is absent for the second year...
HOWEVER, if I signed with a new school, or if my school signed anyone else, they would still have to dish out airfare themselves. BY not recieving airfare, I am "LOSING" out on a ticket valued about $1000...no small change.
So, is it unreasonable to ask for another round ticket? |

My boyfriend and I recently signed with a school and asked the same questions. If you sign a new contract with the same school, the standards should be the same. Ask them before you sign. If they dont offer another return airfare, go with a different school next. |

One of my friends just went through this. He signed on for an additional year but had no desire to go back to Canada for a visit. His school didn't want to offer anything, but he argued that since he was staying, the school was saving about $1500 or so on the ticket and recruiting fees, and VISA run, etc. The agreed to split it and the school gave him $750 instead of a new round trip ticket. He still gets his airfare home at the end.
My advice...Negotiate. You might not get it all, but try to get at least half.

I had a minor problem with this.
They balked a little at first but in the end gave me a return ticket to Australia after not too much hassle.
I know you aren't going home, but just tell them you are and they will be more willing to give you the money.
It won't hurt them if you tell this white lie. |

Ask the question? I signed whilst already in country, but have a payment of 1,000,000won to cover an airfare. |
