I put this question on my other thread, but I figured I'd ask again. If coming over on a one-way ticket and no job lined up, how long can I stay in the country before I either have to renew the visa or get an E2? I thought it was only 30 days, but somebody mentioned 90. Anyone know for sure which length of time it is?

I'm Canadian, but from what I've seen, is that if you are an American, you can come straight into Korea and get a 30 day tourist visa stamp at airport immigration, upon arrival.

If you go to a Korea embassy/consulate, prior to coming over, you can apply for a 90day tourist visa.

No, not that I have found so far at least. I called United Airline today and was quoted ~$1370 for a RT with an open ended return. A one way costs ~$650. A RT where the return flight must be made within 30 days is ~$650 as well. To extend the return flight another 30 days would cost an additional $150. However, I found someone selling a $700 delta voucher for 1/2 off. Therefore a One-way would only cost me $350, a savings of $300. I'm going to call a travel agent tomorrow and see what price they can get for me on an open ended RT ticket

OK, try www.priceline.com

I usually buy "flexible" returns for under 1,000 USD, once as low as 650 USD.

About one day. That's how long it usually takes to find a job here.

I just got off the phone with United Airline and the Korean Consulate in Seattle. The Consulate said that I can apply for a 90 day tourist Visa. UA said that prior to boarding, I must show proof of an onward ticket, regardless if I plan on staying less than the 90 days. So I either have to purchase a RT ticket, or a One-way ticket with another ticket to another country, or a One-way ticket with the ferry to japan.

The consulate said that each airline is different and that immigration does not make the decision on whether or not you need an onward ticket. So check with the airline before you leave for Korea.

The easiest way around that is to buy a ferry ticket to Fukoka. Run a search on Kangsan travel in Busan. I'm not sure, but I think they run around 90.000W.

When's the last time you have been in the job market? I think this is hardly true now -- if it ever was -- unless you have really low standards.

The last time I was in the job market was this summer. I sent out one resume and got the job. Yes, I have really low standards. That's why I don't teach and have time to post on here all day long.

I think you had some luck on your side. I don't think it's hard to find a job, but I also think it's harder than most posters here let on. I'm as well-suited as anybody for this position, and it took me about three weeks. If I was coming here on a tourist visa looking for work, I would give myself a month to find it.
