Maybe this belongs on the technology forum but my problem is so retro-tech I thought I'd try it out here. Basically, my dinosaur tv/vcr has swallowed a good chunk of a rented video. What to do?
I dont know how to extract the mangled tape from the insides of my vcr, short of just giving a good yank on the cassette. I suppose I'm on the hook to compensate the video rental shop. I can live with that. What does a movie run these days anyway?
Time to hit the boss up for a new tv. I tried that 6 months ago & was told it wouldnt hit its regulatory death for a couple years yet (EPIK - govt guidelines.) Not exactly an emergency -- the tv still functions & I dont watch it much anyway. Wouldnt you know, my gas rangee died just last week too & I went through a bunch of paperwork to replace it on sunday.
I was watching Cold Mountain -- reasonably good film, the first half anyway. Funny thing is I'd set it as homework for an adult class to view & we're to discuss it this thursday. I guess I'll have them explaining to me in detail how it all turned out!
Um, what was my question? |

No problem. You're just going to have to open it up, and then you can untagle it. You should be able to take off the top cover by undoing the screws on the bottom. Done it loads of time with our cheap hogwan supplied vcr. |

exactly. easy to do as well. While you do it, you can clean the heads with some lens cleaners from a camera shop. works a treat. |

The video should only cost you I think about 10,000 to 20,000. Just go and be honest and show them the money. they will take the money. Anyways most videos here in Korea are bootlegged. It is not like your paying for an original video. Your lucky this is in Korea. In Canada at Blockbuster it would cost you about 30.00 dollars and up. That includes proccessing fee.
Also I do not think this person can open there VCR. It is part of TV set am I correct. It is a TV/VCR combo makes it more difficult.
Good Luck Tell us how it goes.

Well I managed to coax the tape out of the player (yes built into the tv) but it was pretty mangled. I hand-wound it back into the cassette which for some reason jammed the spools. Trash, basically, I figured.
It never crossed my mind to stiff the video store. I explained to the manager what had happened, apologized, & offered cash to replace it, but she refused my money with a smile & shooshed me away, implying no big deal. The kindness of shopowners here is a wonder to me. |

Are you a good customer. Sometimes they will let things slide if you put alot of business into there video shop. I wish my video store owners where like them. I had a video shop refuse to give me a membership and over and year I spent about 20,000 to 50,000 a month on videos. Idiots,
