Language Programs Popular
Despite the economic slowdown, big-ticket items for language training programs are capturing the lucrative attention of consumers.

LG Home Shopping Inc., one of the largest home shopping channels, received 130 orders amounting to 600 million won in sales profit for language programs in Canada....Program prices hover above 4.9 million won just for four weeks in the U.S. public school programs and reach more than 5.4 million won for public school programs in New Zealand and 3.8 million won for an intensive English training program in Canada.

An official of the firm said that many people are expressing high interest in the programs despite the high prices hovering around 4-5 million won. Other companies are scrambling to put together similar language program deals, seizing the moment of the boom linked to the upcoming the winter vacation. The prices are also high, ranging from 4.5 million won to 7 million won for 4-7 weeks.

Koreans will pay a lot to learn english in country on the other side of the world, surrounded by an english speaking environment, taught by qualified teachers, and maybe kowtowed to by a legion of Korean handlers who will make sure the bibimbap tastes just like it does at home. Okay. What does this have to do with the "your salary" part?

Have you noticed, RR, the growing chorus of people who rightly call you an idiot?

I enjoy RR's post and also agree with most of his opinions.

Language schools make loads of money of your effort and should you as teachers get a piece of that pie.

Why should we complain, becasue every other worker in Korea complains about their pay and working conditions. But since we are foreigners nothing will ever change.

Except it ESL teachers are considered transient bums and don't deserve comparable salaries or conditions.

Most won't be working for the same school the next year or be even living in country.

And why should it matter we can always get someone younger and cheaper who doesn't know any better and has never read one of RR' posts.

People complain all the time about restrictions on foreigners starting language schools in Korea. If the article posted is accurate, why not just go back to Canada and start the same kind of program and get set to rake in the won?

What opinions? He posts links to newspapers and makes a cryptic comment.
