Hey all Cheonanians--

Just wanted to put out the word in case you didn't know. Both are by Galleria/Yawoori/Bus Terminal.

TGI's is already open. If you are across the street from Galleria (facing it), turn right and walk to the next main intersection. Take a right there, and it's about 100 feet from the intersection on the opposite side. You'll see it when you get to the corner, with it's red and white striped awnings.

Outback will open in December. Kinda big news for Cheonan people...previously the closest sit-down Western chain was in Suwon.

Heard rumors of a Starbucks, too. It's just interesting how the city has changed in 4 years. When I first came, Carrefour was the ONLY big supermarket in the city. Megamart and Dong-ban mart were both on the far outskirts. Now there are Lotte Marts, E-mart, etc.

I love the boardgame cafes that have gone in, our nice multi-plex theatre (no more 1-room theatres that sell you microwave popcorn and never clean up the sticky spilled pop off the floors), and the newer bus routes in town. Anyway, just happy to be in Cheonan today.

korea has became the BIGGEST cash cow for francises in the world..

becuase korean cant create anything of their own..
so they just buy the francises from America..
sad really.. soon Korea will became one big american shoppiung mall..

Who gives a flying *beep* about TGI's. More outrageously overpriced, heart attack inducing greasy crap, like Cheonan doesn't have enough crap food restaurants already.

If we're talking franchises in Cheonan, there's now a BulDalk (�� �� ) across the street from the Yawoori down the road behind Baskin Robbins. If you don't know BulDalk, it's a chain of barbecue chicken and squid places where they have an enormous charcoal grill at the front of the restaurant. You can watch them grill the chicken. The catch is, all the food there is REALLY spicy hot. I'm not talking about your bog-standard kimchi-chigae spicy either; this stuff had tears running down my face. There's a reason why the water is self-serve. Really great, lively atmosphere. Soju, Baekseju, blah blah and draught lager available.

It was so busy last time there was a massive queue outside with a whiteboard posted to write your name down.

OK, first off, the whole idea of a "franchise", in Korea as elsewhere, is not to reinvent the wheel, so to speak.

Second, there are tons of "Korea-only" franchises.

Hey Cheonanites,

There's a new Pinoy import store across from Yawoori, down that next street.

They sell Red Horse Extra Strong. 3,000 won a bottle. I just bought 12.

If you've been to the Philippines, you'll understand why this discovery is significant.

PS Tanduay 16,000 won a quart.

Quick Cheonan BulDalk update ...

Was there at the weekend and the place was absolutely banging. Waited nearly 45 minutes to get a table.

Tried the squid and mmmmmmmmmmmmm. Spicy barbecue heaven. Also had chicken skewers. Again, mmmmmmmmmmm.

Needless to say, the saengmekju and soju flowed like water.

I have officially found my new favourite restaurant.

I don't understand the infatuation with spicy foods....too hot, can't enjoy it, too busy looking for water and things to wipe my nose and eyes with....ummm WHY???

There is no need for it! A little spice, okay, fine...but come on...why??

I feel the same way Koreabound, although I kind of come round if I'm really bunged up with a cold.

Doesn't water just make the heat worse? I thought you were supposed to have some kind of rice porridge with �Ҵ�?
