| What's the foreign wine availability like in Korea? Will I be able to get it, or is it quite rare? |

| I've noticed that a lot of the big department stores (hyundai in particular) have wine stores in their basement areas. They have a resonable selection of wines from europe, north and south america, australia and new zealand. A bit pricey (maybe about 20k for an ok bottle of white) but you can find some decent drops there. |

Due to tariffs, shipping costs, the excuse du jour, imported wine is tremendously overpriced. If you can, bring over a few of your favorite bottles with you.
Just last week, I bought and brought back from the Yoo Ess Eh some wine that sold there for $2.99/bottle. Same bottle here goes for 18,000 won. |

it's getting more and more popular all the time and any fancy area will have a good selection. There are specialist wine shops near me in Hongdae, and all the convenience stores carry a range of about 5 or 6 different bottles.
Pricey though, maybe twice the price of the UK, 18,000 won a bottle and upwards. |

Yeah too true. I used to work in a wine shop back home, and I see bottles of jacobs creek which would go for like $8NZ (that's about 7-8000krw) going for over 20k here. Just about died. I do like having wine for cooking though, but I bring over a couple of nice bottles for special occasions. |

One man's over priced is another man's "reasonable". Compared to Ontario where even a cheap bottle of domestic plonk runs about $10, I was surprised to find lots of imported French and Chilean wines for $8.
Of course the scary stuff is the domestic Korean red "House Wine" for $3 a bottle. Made by Jinro, fine makers of drinkable battery acid... |

Carrefour in Yatap is having a big sale on wine right now. I picked up three bottles of some award-winning French gear for 16 000 won yesterday. It normally costs twice that much. They had a string quartet playing beside the selections too. The ajummas were, as the kids say, "gettin' into it". |

| Our Carrefour (Jungye-dong) has a decent wine selection with plenty of good buys (Hardy's from OZ, only W9000, for instance). All the major wine growing countries are represented. They have a great selection of cheap French Bordeaux and table wines, most W10,000 or under. I'm not talking 5 or 6 brands, either. More like 30 labels, at least (more if you include whites and rose). And that's only the French swill! |
