| Hi. I'm building another box for myself and don't want to make the same mistake again...my Western digital HD makes a freakload of noise...I've heard Seagates are quieter...is this true? What's the quietest HD you've heard of? Thanks. |

Seagate and Samsung drives are quieter.

Most hard drive activity is amplified via the case. Take out the case from the equation and it's really not so bad. This is one rather extreme method. Another is simply damping between the sides of the hard drive and the case. Be sure no to dampen the top or bottom, as heat will become an issue.
The Maxtors are a bit noisy, and have heard good things, as Muggie says, about Seagate. In the past, Samsing drives were....well....less than optimal. They have stepped up to the plate lately, but there are too many better brands who got it right from the outset to bother.
