Different rules apply...korean woman married to a westerner or a korean male married to a westerner.... korean married to korean.
Most of the time...it is NOT 50/50 if both parties are korean. 90%...the male wins. Gets the children, majority of the money, the house, etc...BUT...times are changing and it's getting to 50/50 with many variables involved.
It can be 50/50 IF and only IF BOTH parties agree and can solve it in a friendly manner.
Having children, property and money changes the rules of divorce.
If none of the above are involved...it's a simple process.
File...both parties agree...court sets a date...no snags or hurdles come up...appear in court and it's a done deal. Happens in one day in many cases.
2003/2004...korea lead the world in divorces it was widly reported in many newspapers in korea. Jeju/Cheju had the highest divorce rate in korea! Does not say much for the honeymoon place!

Strange to say, I think the easy divorce is quite a progressive step in Korea...50/50 settlements and a bias toward maternal custody of the children would be even better. Women having a wide range of employment opportunities and equal opportunities to support themselves would be fantastic...Oh, well, another 30 years I guess.
