Since I came to Korea, I have been exploring The Land Beyond Three Drinks (so I've been happy and buzzed, but not truly drunk.) Both of these brave excursions occurred while out with guys who felt strongly that I needed to drink a lot of soju. Also, both of them started with a bit of yangju (rye/amaretto).
I wish I could tell you how much I ended up drinking, but I have no clue. In the first case, a fella was watering down my pop with it (eventually I couldn't even taste the orange flavouring), and in the second, it was done in shots then mixed with Coke.
I have no idea what "hungover" is really about: I don't have a headache and I'm fairly alert, but I have a familiar nausea. I initially ascribed it to the events of the night before (soju might make me a little snuggly), but I'm wondering if this is just a residual side-effect of the liquor.
In the first case, I was nauseated, with no appetite, for days. I assumed it had more to do with being sexually bullied by a stranger (left me with nail and tooth marks to boot) than with the demon drink, because I was pretty clear-headed and not too wobbly that night.
Last night, I drank until I was quite sure I would go completely crosseyed and/or vomit, had a much nicer sort of snog, but am feeling similar queasiness.
So, I'm asking the experts to weigh in. Is it soju or guilt? Is a soju hangover different from any other? Any remedies (for the hangover or the guilt ) would be appreciated. |

I'm a little afraid to ask but what exactly is your pop? You mean your soda? Wait, let me guess, Minnesota?

Reason I don't drink to excess...
I suffer from horrible guilt which last for days afterwards.
But everyone is different. |

Tee hee. In Minnesota, they pronounce it "pap", which is never something I readily say yes to. I like the way thank people too: "Thinks!" No, in Manitoba, we never call it soda, and sometimes pop, but usually "soft drink". However, unless I'm offering you a variety, I'd just ask "Want a Coke?" "Thinks." I mean "Thanks." |

I don't like the menacing way in which those blue stripes are creeping toward the maple leaf!
Flags on snowmobiles? The quickest way to know if a restaurant or company is from an American chain is to look for the Maple Leaf. We're not that flag-happy, really.
Anyway, aside from Peperos, what advice can you give me about soju/hangovers? |

I notice that I have far more blackout episodes on drunken nights of soju, than any other form of alcohol that I've had. And it's always creeper-type stuff for me. I'm fine and drunk for awhile, but then the worm turns sharply after one particular point and I become absolutely skull-fucked. I can actually feel the surge come on, when it happens.
Then, the next day is a mess. For those of you that have dropped E before, well then you know about the morning after that, which is my feeling after a night of soju, with that really annoying state of uncomfortable alertness, when you just want to sleep, and you close your eyes and your mind is going all over the place.
I'm on a beer and/or margarita break from the soju, for the time being. My last soju night was pretty intense. |

The best cure is to drink more soju. I usually have two bottles with breakfast. |

soju neat is OK. The problem is when you get into the soju bombs--Kool-Aid and soju. They must have been invented on the hill ---have you ever seen a Korean drink one?
Soju-bombs--don't try this at home kids! |

i love drinkin'. i stay far the *beep* away from soju for any reason, dumb, smart, whatever.
pho is the miracle cure. find a pho restaurant. you wake up at 2, eat pho at 4, the rest of the evening is mellow. |

Soju is the devils drink.
I have been to hospital twice due to soju poisoning. I'm not sure what it is but it really does stuff you up.
Yet, i still drink it, but nowdays in moderation.
Soju and Chilsung Cider is a good mix. Just kills the soju taste. |

Hey buddy,
Minnisota is the land of 10,000 lakes, while Manitoba is the land of 100,000 lakes. Big difference! |
