The one I have now is 18 months old and obviously very uncool at this point. Anyone buy a phone recently?

Just bought one for 30,000 won from some dude on my hockey team. Likely over 24 months old, and certainly lacking the coolness factor.

But really, how badly do I need to compete in the Korean handphone status race? Actually, my real excuse is that I lose a handphone about every three months- once a season, I guess.

(I was the kinda kid who had to have his mittens tied to his jacket.... I could finally take them off when I entered university. Thanks mom!)

I hear ya- I'm somewhat of a victim, but only in the cheapest way...

.... Has to be a color screen, and not the beepy-beep ringtones... Those are available for under 100, though- cheap enough to lose.

My ex in Daejeon had one of those decked out sliding SKY phones that cost her 700,000 in monthly payments... Lost it two weeks ago. They're just too small and expensive for me to trust myself with!

I hate my new samsung.

Has a software bug in it where if I am typing a text message to someone and I receive a message while I am typing, it sometimes randomly changes the send phone number to a different person on my list. If you type quick and send fast without looking at the number it's sending to, it might have changed, and you can send the wrong message to the wrong person.

I also hate that my Samsung has English, but when I go to send photos or edit photos I take with my cameraphone, it changes to korean with no option for english in that mode.

I wish I had bought Sky or Motorola again, but I got sucked into the "Samsung is best" mentality, which I am learning is false.

I wanted Curitel, actually, but couldn't find a phone from them I liked which had English.

Christ... What do you do on a phone? Pick it up. Talk to people... Why the hell do you want to throw money away...

which model do you have? take it to the Samsung A/S center and asked for your software to be updated. Unless your phone is so new that they don't have an update or flash for it yet.

I just bought a LG Cyon Slide Phone for 150,000 won. It's color and comes with a camera, though, it doesnt seem to be cutting edge or anything.

The main problem was signing up for the 010 service. Most shops wouldn't insisted that I get my the 019 Prepaid Card Crap. Whenever they tried that I left the store.

After going to 5 or 6 stores, I settled at a LG store. They hooked me up with the new number and phone relatively easily.

They wanted to look at my passport, ARC and the front page of my bank book. The owners basically wanted to see who long I have been in Korea. They said if my bank account was open for longer than 6 months, I wouldn't have to pay deposit or anything. All told, everything was set up for 210,000 (phone + new number in my name + first month service charge or something like that)

I suggest bringing a Korean friend since it would have been tough getting them to agree by myself.

It's not just a phone, it's an extension of your personality...c'mon, embrace the madness!

If anyone is looking for phones and cheap monthly plans for foreigners, regardless if you have an ARC or not, drop me a PM, as I'll give you the number of a Korean guy who has an office up in Uijeongbu that helps foreigners out.

I've had one of those cheap digital Generation 2 handphones since I got here in 2002. I do the pre-pay every so often. It cost 60,000 to activate. 20,000 or so to replace.

If anybody wants a basic phone without the bells and whistles, I'll sell it before next month. It's a KT.

How does one change handphone phone numbers?

My next phone will be a Nespot Swing, when I have the money.

I costs from 600K to 700K.
