I have this business job from a recruiter and I'm "in" real good with some of the employees and I also tutor the CEO. I'd love to get a business visa from their company and work for a higher wage than what the recruiter has been paying me. Has anyone done this? I only teach like 2 hours a day, but I'd pay for the visa and I wouldn't need housing, benefits, medical, paid vacation, etc. Just the Visa and we could both work out a deal where I'd save the company money and I'd be making more than what I am right now too. Having this accomplished would definitely make me stay in Korea for one more year. What do you think?

If the recruiter took a one-time intro commission, then it's not a big deal, but in this situation, you're technically employed by the recruiter, considering that's who's paying you. You also have to factor in that Koreans are not as carefree about shafting fellow Koreans that they have an established working relationship with, unlike the foreign teacher-recruiter or foreign teacher-director relationships. You can sever that relationship with the recruiter easier than it will be for the employer to burn the bridge with recruiter. Think about their position, too.

If you and your employer are willing to deal with the fallout of severing the recruiter relationship, then all you have left to deal with is the bad karma issues, which sounds like you're already willing to concede.

yeah, it makes sense when you put it in the company's perspective. I do have bad blood with the recruiters, however...always months late with the payment. As of right now, they owe me over 3mil. But I do have a good relationship with the workers at the company (my superiors) and I see them on a daily basis...as opposed to the recruiters who make a once a month phone call to ask, "where's the money?"

What kind of relationship does your employer have with the recruiter? It may be that your boss's cousin, second cousin, elder brother's friend etc. is friends with the recruiter. In that case it could be difficult/embarrassing for your employer to sever contacts with the recruitment agency. Maybe you could ask a discrete question as to how they know the recruitment agency. Also, you may have to wait until the end of your contract to make such a change.
