Hello. I have heard bad and good about EPIK. I have heard there are good POEs to work for aswell. Does anyone know where one of these places are or has a story to tell about how they got a good POE? Has EPIK shapened up any? Is there a good area I can choose to work for while on the EPIK program?
Also, is there a place in Korea with a Japanese speaking population?
Thank you. |

EPIK is a crapshoot.
Personally, I have a good EPIK position. I have 19 classes that I see once a week for 45 minutes. Currently, I don't have any teacher training. My pay is above the average hagwon and I'm going to be getting several weeks' holiday during winter vacation. On the other hand, I know people in the same POE (Gyeongsangbuk-do) that see their students twice a month, once a month, and once every semester. Some people are always travelling between schools. I know people who are working all hours with teacher training (granted for some extra money). Level 3 pay is below average. Some people will only receive 7 days' holiday during winter vacation.
There isn't a way to know what you're going to get with EPIK until you actually get to your placement which you don't find out about until the end of a two-week orientation. It's stupid. You can end up anywhere from teaching at 20 elementary schools to a teacher training facility. So, if you like to gamble and you've got some money socked away in case it doesn't work out, go for it! |
