Real Reality reports like Koreans.
He states an absolute ("fares to rise"), but when you read the article, you find that that's not a certainty.

Honestly,
I think they should rise a little. It must be one of the most hellish work conditions in the country.
Taxis here are so frigging cheap, especially when you compare Per capita income to fares.
Just don't them up any higher  |

Amen. 1600 for flag fall? What's flag fall in any North American city? And then you can go for a good clip before the meter turns over to 1700. Geez. Most of my cab trips are 1600 or 1700. I hand them 2000 won and say thanks and get out of the cab. |

Now that's a nice "eh?" and you're absolutely right. I didn't read the article because I'm feeling lazy so I don't know if this was covered -- but I've heard that a taxi fare increase is supposed to result in a decrease of accidents on Korean streets. As it is, they really have to work their arses off to make decent money (especially in smaller cities), and that makes for some recklessness.

Now, do you really believe that? Taxi drivers are almost all the same. They drive fast and recklessly. The odd driver drives safely, fully abiding the traffic laws. I don't see a 300 or 320 won increase, changing that. |

Not immediately, but maybe over the long run.
A 300 won increase will make a difference over the course of a week. |

I heard they changed the taxi fares from being metered on time to distance to try and sort out the dangerous driving. If that didn't work, I don't see how increasing the fares will either.
[should I be worried if I start using "eh" even though I'm not canadian?] |

It's my understanding that only the Old Timers (20+ years and no accidents) get to collect directly from the customer. I could see them slowing down. The rest of the drivers are paid via the taxi company. That is why, I don't see a change coming anytime soon.
Can somebody correct me if I am wrong? (With regards to the way taxi drivers are paid) |

| I think they have gone up already in Daegu. The last few times I have taken a cab across town, the price was up by about 2000 won. |
