Hey all,
I have a class with 2 middle school students, both of whom lived abroad in the US for at least 2 years. Their conversational skills are both great, a little childish at times, but probably not that much different from 13 year old North American kids. Their writing, however, is atrocious. They have a good grasp of grammar, and they do well on the practice TOEFL tests I give them. Yet, when they have to apply grammatical rules to their own composition, they just can't seem to do it, and their writing is almost unintelligible.
I'm looking for a book in which each chapter addresses a grammatical concept and gives 10-20 examples, in Korean, which the kids have to translate into proper English. Not a TOEFL, fill in the blanks style, but a good explanantion of how the grammar works, followed by Korean to English translation. I can't find anything like this. Most books are either TOEFL multiple choice style, or about essay writing. My students just need some good old fashioned sentence writing practice.
Sorry for being so long winded, but any suggestions would be a great help.
Thanks in advance. |
