Next year is made for workaholics
Looking ahead to next year, there will be far fewer days off work because of national holidays compared to this year. Three national holidays fall on Sunday, and New Year's Day falls on Saturday. While the Lunar New Year occurs on Wednesday, it is not linked with a weekend. Buddha's birthday (May 15), Constitution Day (July 17), and Christmas (Dec. 25) all fall on Sundays next year. Moreover, Chuseok, the Korean thanksgiving, is on a Sunday, thus people cannot enjoy an additional day off before Chuseok next year.

But salaried workers have something to look forward to: Because Memorial Day (June 6), Independence Day (Aug. 15) and National Foundation Day (Oct. 3) fall on Mondays next year, workers who have the weekend off will enjoy three-day holidays.

This year was bad enough with public holidays falling on a weekend. Next year isn't going to be much different. Smile

Yeah, the news isn't that bad for me.

Between Chuseok 2004 and Lunar New Year 2005, I have nothing. Not a day off.

Again another biased news story.

I guess the intelligent will be the ones ones to pick up how 2006 will have MORE holidays than 2004/2005 because of so many saturday/sunday holidays moving to Monday.

Real Reality, I guess you need a grip on something called "Every 7 years"...yes that is when holidays move from Monday to Sunday each year, so that you will always have 1 bad year out of 7.

He is simply pointing out that there will be 3 less days off next year for us English teachers.

I dont find it biased at all.

I guess the intelligent posters will realise that each year there are the same amount of holidays. Now we may not actually benefit from that day due to the fact that its on a weekend but the actual amount of holidays really doesnt change. Razz

How many will be in Korea in 2006? Do most foreigners stay in Korea seven years?

I will start my 7th year in Korea in one month and have no plans to move on. By the standards of many of my friends, I am the newbie.
