When I went back home to Canada, I chilled out for a couple of months, did some freelance work on the side (as to not be a complete bum), and saw lots of pre-and early-season soccer (Vancouver Whitecaps).
I then moved to England, where I now have a government job.
My disposable income is significant lower than back in Korea, but my quality of life is much, much higher.
Things that no longer drive me crazy:
-hagwon kiddies (most of us in hagwons are adventurers, rather than de jure teachers... I admit that most of my time with them was enjoyable, but there's always a little wanker to ruin the experience)
-hagwon bosses (reading other people's stories, I was one of the few people with relatively good experiences with my boss... yet in the Western world, he'd have been considered a jerk. I had to haggle just to take off my contract-given vacation days, and in the end I didn't even get to use all ten. Compare that with England, where I get 23 annual leave days per year. And I couldn't believe how holidays in Korea that fell on weekends weren't pushed over into the next weekday! What a rip-off)
-wondering if I would get my final pay and severance pay (doesn't this just drive you nuts?)
-the language barrier (obviously I expected this, and I even initally made efforts to learn the languauge... but soon into my contract I realized that I wouldn't be doing another year in Korea, and thus felt my time was best served in other ways)
-etc etc etc...
Don't get me wrong, I had many excellent experiences in Korea, including meeting the woman whom I will likely marry..... but DAMN, am I ever glad to be out of Korean employment!
Better improvrished and happy than rich and miserable, I say.
Perhaps I would have been better off working in Japan instead.... |

I will be back in the States in 3 1/2 weeks from now.
I will look for work.. and be missing/thinking of Asia the entire time until I eventually go back there again. |

| I'm going to graduate school and getting a degree in Education, so as to be certified and trained how to teach. My husband's doing the same. Then we'll head off to international schools throughout the world and teach during the school year and do volunteer mission/aid work with our summer vacations. |

I'm back home right now. Came back in July to see my best friend get married, and then my other best friend got married in October, and then I thought perhaps I'll stay till Christmas as I've missed the last four. I'm doing some translating and some teachin and some studying and some breaking up with my gf. Must be ready when I go back to Korea.
...in January. |

Nope, already broken up! She was my Korean gf from Busan, living in Sydney Australia. She wanted me to visit her in Australia before I went back to Korea but that seems out of the way and I didn't want to. I just broke up through e-mail... |

I go home for a month every year. mostly family visits, take a look at my house and talk with the guy who takes care of it for me.
Also tend to do a whirlwind tour of my friends places (they live all over now) and if possible catch a hockey game or two. |

Wow, that's the first time that I've ever seen the claim that a lower disposable income makes the quality of life much much higher. |
