I have read alot of posts about foreigners here, and it bothers me every time.

Anyone who has been here long enough to feel as if they are "living here" knows what some of the people teaching here are like.

It is of my opinion, that complaining about other teachers is an entire waste of time and destructive. Why?

1. It will be like this for a long time, therefore moaning is of no use;
(the ease of finidng a job, the good pay, the distance from your home country and your problems, the demand for youth)

2. It does not appear to change anyone.

3. People who read these posts become more cautious around foreigners,
choosing more often to avoid them, than talk to them. The immediate benefit of someone who can speak your language and help you / be friends with you, is compromised by the ideas that you bring with you after reading some of these posts.

Now, this is simply my opinion. I am no expert on the topic (having been here for less than two years) but I welcome your thoughts.

Maybe I'm missing something, but if people just quit the moaning, and used this forum for the benefit of others (or light humour), it would be far more beneficial.

I like many of the posts and I think there are some very smart people posting on here, however I would like to read more things that would enrich my day-to-day life, rather than make me ashamed of other foreigners and glad I live in Ansan and not Seoul.

Cheers

Substitute "Koreans" for "teachers" and "foreigners" you'll start to get the picture.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Well noted, Sammy, but this place ain't sheeot compared to the mudslinging and whining that it was over a year ago, and especially pre-Jan/03 on the old board. It was almost unbearable. Now the place has been cleaned up (some say, too clean) and there are now forums on other sites for talking and complaining at length about each other.

There are hardly any Korea-bash threads anymore. Not many fake degree heated debates. No 7 page threads of apologists vs. whiners. Save for the odd Grotto vs Gord flare-up and healthy debates on the Current Events forums, I'd hardly call what we see here as rampant moaning and whining anymore.

Because they suck.

Because (in general) they are whiney, immature, ignorant, and intolerant.

They manage to be both arrogant and ill mannered and yet hypocritical enough to accuse others of the same.

They are disloyal, immoral, shortsighted and selfish.

And while not all of them are like this, the ones that are make the rest of us look bad.

I guess that answers the question "Why don't you like the foreigners?" rather than "Why complain about foreigners".

doesnt matter where you are or what you do, in life there will always be haters.. the people who compain about other foreigners in my opinion will complain about many other things...
no one in this world is 100% satisfied with whats going on around them be it the little things or the guy next door..
I agree with your posts.. my father always said to me..
Dont worry about what the other guy has got or what the other guy is doing.. just focus on what you got and what you doing..
so many foreigners here just like to complain about other foreigners..

I mean hey im sure we all do it.. in a bar and look over at some group of dudes and go DAMN! why dont they just go home? or damn buddy clean yourself up abit you are representing English teachers we are all gonna get type cast...
but thats every country.. even back home we do that... right?
so I guess whats happening on this board with some foreigners putting down other foreigners is just Normal highschool behavour which we grew up in.. deep down we are all just grown up children..
some act better than others..etc...

Usually, the foreigner complaint posts stem from people who see Korean complaint posts and feel that the stereotyping is unjust. While I agree with the sentiment, I instead just choose to stay out of the entire debate, or occasionally mention in Korean complaint threads said feeling.

What's funny is finding foreigners defending themselves on the thread, like it was directed at them, or like their own situation warrants a withdrawal of the comments. I've done it a couple of times myself, but time is a great teacher, and repetition... Confused

I don't see that happening at any noteworthy level anymore. Not since some of the old bunch were perma-banned. You gotta go way back to look for the quazlillion figures. I think it's leaning towards the foreigner-bash threads, moreso, these days.

Sometimes, when I see the conduct of some English teachers and foreigners resident in Korea, I feel it reflects badly on me. I feel that as a community we could be better ambassadors for our respective countries, and at times I feel I have to compensate in this country, for the behaviour of some others. I have seen some disgusting behaviour from foreigners in this country.

So I understand when people want to let off steam.
