Does anyone know about a company that offers free internet phone calls? I saw a post about that a few months ago but a search for it did not yield any results.

Skype doesn't allow you to call landline phones

Gord's right. Expect to pay 2~5 cents US/min for calls to Canada, the US, or the UK, using online phone services.

Calls to Korean landlines are roughly double.

This is from Skype's FAQ:
Quote:
Will it be possible to call to normal fixed phones and mobile phones with Skype?
We will be adding functionality soon which will allow you to call to regular phones with Skype. Stay tuned!

That's their way of saying "no".

Thanks for the information. I'd go with internet phone if it was really a good deal. The rates seem a lot better but I wonder if the same is true of the clarity and connection.

sorry for the bad info. I had just woken up and was checking my PMs, so I didn't really read your query.

Ever dial 00321 or 00777 or 00770 or any of those any other discount companies that offer cheap international long distance? They are all VoIP that then call out once in the U.S..

I don't use those codes but instead use A+ calling cards to dial to the US; I'd like to do the same using a cell phone. A+ supposedly offers the same low rates on cell phones but I've never tried because I heard that it doesn't work.

I'm using the crappiest 3000w microphone and the sound quality is fine. Better than a regular phone, most of the time, if you have high speed access.

Cool side benefit - If you're vacationing in a country like Thailand where international phone rates out of the country are crazy-expensive, and you have an account with a PC-to-phone service, it's easy to find an internet cafe computer that will let you use their microphone and headset. Or, if you had a laptop, you could take it to a mall or restaurant that has free wi-fi access, and make phone calls to home for nearly nothing.

Reviving an old thread, but I was researching this.

Skype now lets you call mobile and landline phones --

$0.032 a minute for Korean lines
$0.023 for the U.S., Ireland, New Zealand, the U.K., and Canada

I'm in Korea of course but how do I dial to cell phones and landline phones in Korea using Skypes? There's no information about the country codes. Also, I dialed to the US using another method, not the way it's shown on there. Has anyone experienced problems using Skypes? Nobody seems to be able to hear me when I talk to them, so I think I need to purchase new headsets. But if anyone has the same problem with new headsets then it may be a software related issue.

I've been using net2phone for over 6 years. Just switched to skype to call people worldwide PC to landline. Everyone says the quality is near perfect and I have had zero problems with aconnection. I would suggest then that if you do have problems, it is more likely to be your setup. Have you called the test line?

Put "+82" at the beginning of all your calls, like you put "+1" at the beginning of all U.S. calls.

Actually, I think the phone rate at Skype is the same or cheaper than having a landline here with the special "Waygook Discount."
