I left (and by left I mean ran) from Korea last April and while I was happy to be home for the first few weeks, since then I have missed it. Even though I vividly remember the reasons I left (all of them supervisor-oriented) I can't help but want to go back. This time I would know what to look for in a school, schedule, etc. plus I would have the added advantage of knowing that the grass is not greener on the North American side of the fence. Has anyone who has left Korea, legally or on a runner, felt the same way? Has anyone who has come back after that had better experiences the second time round?

By the way, I'm from New Brunswick, Canada. Maybe that's why I want to go back to Korea.

Absolutely, man. I'm back in British Columbia, Canada after just a year in Korea. I've been back since late August and I can feel the pull of Korea again. I want to get a policing career established, but in that field you start from scratch. I have to play the waiting game because the process has so many hoops to jump through. So I'm stuck volunteering and working a couple of menial jobs in the meantime.

Is it any wonder people feel the need to run back to Korea after being back home? After the initial comfort of seeing familiar places, enjoying food and TV, visiting friends and family, I missed the freedom in Korea. Korea has interesting places to visit, fun places to party, all the disposable cash a person needs on an English teacher's salary, and a free apartment. It takes time to restart your life back home and you shouldn't feel bad for wanting to run back. Just go!

is it korea? or is the need to get out of your home town again and be free and explore, be a foreigner in a strange land..

people choose to stay here for years.. becuase they get use to it.. or for other reasons.. others continue the voyage and head to other nations..

but korea sure does have a charm that is hard to let go..

ever thought about doing japan or china next..

i'm so happy to be back in canada! korea is the most back-assward place i've ever been to. i've been sharing stories of korea with people and they don't believe how insane that place is. that being said i am coming back, but not because i love korea, but because we are saving up to travel and korea is the best place for that.

If you left feeling at all negative, do not return. Nostalgia is almost as cunning as denial--together, they'll do anything in their power to get you eating crow.

Sounds normal or common enough to me. So many of us complain about Korea, but it has saved our a$$es quite a bit.

yeah Korea means alot to me. I met my wife here (Indian), got married here, had a son here, also all of the People I have worked for have never ever cheated me out of a dime....and I am African American so I was sort of expecting to given the short end of the stick but....nope never. I mean it has been great! I plan to get my license here, and travel alot more with my family...we are really excited about that.

So yeah Korea does have a charm. I started out as a exchange student at EWHA of all places, and now I am teaching English! LOL

I really like Korea, with all of the issues that this place has, as well as the good points.

no offense, but that's sad in a way. But you've just gotten back to Canada, so i can see where you are giddy to be back. Just give it another couple weeks Wink. And if you still feel that way about Korea, why not try Taiwan or Japan at least?

and of course lookingtoteach, i'd be back in a heartbeat if I could get a decent-paying job outside TEFL.
