Hello:
I've been told that I should be noting my progress and asking for advice at each step as I need to, so here I am again. Thanks for the advice, last time!
For people who remember my first thread, I will now be going over alone.
I've gotten together the paperwork for my diploma copies - photocopied it several times, had them notarized by a Notary Public, put them together with a letter of confirmation from my university, the money order, and a thank-you note - and sent the lot off to the consulate in Montreal. If it goes through quickly, I should have them back sometime next week.
I have a few things to ask you all:
I'm getting together photos of myself for the recruiters. I'll link to a few here that turned out half-decently. Are they good photos to show around, or am I at least on the right track with them?

While I'm waiting for that paperwork to come back, what else should I be doing? I will update my resume, get together my list of things I want (single accomodations, no small children, no split shifts, near Seoul), take some more pictures as necessary....
Finally, I've been looking at three recruiters - INTOKorea, CK Teachers, and Asia-Pacific. Does anyone know of any serious problems with any of these? Also, is it better to use only one at a time? Asia-Pacific advises readers to use one, so as to avoid flooding schools with your resume, which apparently looks unprofessional. Can anyone advise me on this, please?
EDIT: I do have a current passport. Also, would this photo do for the visa?

| Natasha, great family photos but definitely not job application photos. Even if you won't be dressed formally while you are actually teaching (although some employers may require this) you should be better dressed in photos that accompany an application. |

Thanks. I wasn't pleased with how informal they looked (the shirts aren't so bad, I think, but the jeans didn't really work). I'll retake the photos wearing better clothing - too bad it's just snowed heavily here and I can't take the outside shorts as easily, heh.
Aside from the clothes, how do they look? I'm self-conscious about my smile, I think it looks odd ... little or no makeup, simple hairstyles.... |

Korean women tend to wear plenty of makeup so it might be a good idea to do the same. Don't overdo the makeup, though. Can't advise on the hairstyle as I'm a man and we all know men don't notice things like that.
My theory is that you won't be refused a job because you are well dressed but you can easily miss out if you look untidy or too casual.
Don't worry too much about your smile. I'm a long way from being a movie star or model but I got a job here and have been asked back for three successive years.
One more piece of advice. If you don't have one, try to get hold of a digital camera. Then you can take heaps of photos, sort through them and choose the best to send with your application. Professional photographers take hundreds of photos for every one that is actually used. The rest are discarded. |
